Chapter Four

Teams of Three Are Formed

Rei was bored out of her mind. When she got like this, she usually went and visited Kat, but seeing all of these new faces around her….that made it interesting. “Hey Kitty Kat!” She called, and walked up behind her. Kat whirled around in surprise. “Rei-chan!!! Where’ve you been?” Rei grinned. Well, let’s see…I’ve been training with having no one to talk to, and I’ve been all over town…school’s been boring so I decided to do something that was going to get me out of that rut.” She looked at Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi in turn and grinned. “Hey, who’re these guys?”

Naruto gave her a sunny smile. “I’m Uzumaki Naruto!” He pointed his thumb over to Sasuke, who had his hands shoved in his pockets. “That’s Sasuke-teme.” Kat snickered. “don’t pay attention to those two when they fight Rei-chan. It’s interesting and all, but annoying too. That’s Uchiha Sasuke.” Rei nodded at that and laughed. “So they act like annoying brothers?” Kat snickered. “Yup. Oh, And I forgot! This here is Hatake Kakashi. He was here to see us training.” Kakashi’s visible eye turned into what appeared to be a happy, visible smile and Rei smiled back at him. “Nice to meet you Hatake-san.”

“Kat! What are you going to do now? If you’re going to train, I’m joining in too!” Kat grinned at Rei. “Aw, you don’t want to watch for a while?” She shook her head and glared at her somewhat playfully. Their little spat, if you could call it that, was interrupted by Naruto’s happy call of “Iruka-sensei!” He ran over to the brunette chuunin and hugged him tightly around the waist. Looking up at him he asked, “What are you doing here Iruka-sensei? I thought that you didn’t come to the training grounds?” He nodded in agreement at this and his eyes widened a bit at seeing Kakashi there as well. “Kakashi-san? What are you doing here?” Kakashi chuckled. “These three are rather interesting so I decided to observe their training.” He replied.

“Iruka-sensei, Is there something that you need with us?” He hesitated, but when he noticed the chakra level of an ANBU member that was in the trees, he sighed. “I think that Sandaime-sama needs to see us.” The cat masked ANBU had jumped out of the trees and strode across the clearing, stopping not too far from where Iruka and Naruto were. “Hai Umino-san. Hokage-sama requires the presence of Nakamura Katsuki, Uchiha Sasuke, Uzumaki Naruto, and Hatake Kakashi.” Kakashi was surprised at this, but left with the ANBU member with the trio. “I’ll talk to you later Kitty!” Rei shouted as she saw the retreating forms of the shinobi in training as well as the jounin. Iruka smiled at Rei. “You might want to go and see Kurenai-san Rei. She’ll have some information to give you.” Rei’s eyes widened as he left after that, and she decided to take his words to heart. I wonder what Iruka-sensei meant?

Sitting outside the Sandaime’s office, Kat sighed. “I wonder why we’re here?” She murmured softly. Sasuke stared ahead and said, “Hn, Most likely because we’re the most talented to be a genin, besides the dobe.” He didn’t know how right he was. Naruto stared at Sasuke with narrowed eyes. “Settle down now would you?” Kat said lazily as she glanced at the two. Naruto just turned away, and Sasuke fell silent.

The door opened and the Hokage’s attendant stepped out. “Sandaime-sama will see you now.” All four walked in and stood in front of the Hokage’s desk with uncertainty. “Sandaime-ojiisan? Why are we here?” Kat asked as she stared at him, finally breaking the silence. The third smiled. “Katsuki, you are here because you three are to become a genin team sooner than other academy students would. You have great potential, and to make that potential flourish, you shall get one of the best sensei’s. Specifically behind you.” Kat looked at him in shock. “Kakashi-san!?” Sandaime chuckled.

“It’s Kakashi-sensei now Katsuki. And you three are the official team seven.” Naruto was silent for what seemed the longest time, and Kat was worried that he had passed out. Looking over to him, she saw that he was staring at the Hokage with a huge, wide eyed expression. “Yoshi!!” He yelled out in excitement, and jumped up and down. “This will really help me become hokage for sure!”. Kat laughed at his display and pulled him back to where he was standing. “Naru-kun, I don’t think that Sandaime-ojiisan wants his office a pigsty.” This made him stop and he nodded his head a bit. “Oh…right.” Sasuke stared at his new teammates and then at his teacher. The copy nin as our teacher? At least the Hokage would give us a capable jounin to learn from. “Gomen!” Naruto murmured.

“Now, would you go and give this list to Iruka-san, Kakashi? I would do it personally, but there’s too much paperwork that I have to do now…” Kakashi nodded and took the list that was handed out to him. Filing out the door, a small smile appeared under his masked covered face, it was nice having a group of kids to teach….So far.

As Kat and Naruto opened the doors to the lower entrance of the tower, Kakashi addressed the group. “Meet up on the bridge in twenty minutes.” He was gone just as quickly as that and Kat kicked a rock that was near her foot. “So…what do you guys want to do for that amount of time?” Naruto shrugged and Sasuke shook his head slightly. “Hmm…Well, I guess we’ll think of something.” She murmured.

-------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------

Iruka sighed as he sat down at his desk, his class was actually quiet for once. Regularly, he couldn’t help but miss the one time that Naruto disrupted the class. He wasn’t there now and that made it seem all the more empty. A rapping on the door caught his attention and he perked up a bit, wondering if this was confirming his suspicions earlier. Striding to the door, he opened it and smiled at Kakashi. “Yo Iruka-san. Hokage-sama’s orders are for you to read the genin teams off and their jounin sensei’s. They’re waiting in the hallway. Iruka nodded and took the list. “Arigato Kakashi-san Do you have a team of shinobi students to teach as well?” He nodded. “Hai, my genin team is consisting of Sasuke, Katsuki, and Naruto.” He said and grinned at the shocked look on the chuunin’s face. So I was right! A loud crash was heard within the class room and Iruka’s eyebrow twitched. Kurenai walked up behind Kakashi and stared behind Iruka with interest. “Maybe you should calm them down?” she said softly. With the door still open, he walked back into the room and turned to face the class.

“Listen up! Lord Hokage has assigned some of the genin teams early. No fussing or calling out until I’m done reading Alright?” The students nodded. “Hai Iruka-sensei!” they chorused.

“Team 1.…“ Iruka drolled on, his voice seemed not to reach many of the students. Ino yawned as she stared ahead, she noticed that her precious Sasuke wasn’t there, the loudmouth Naruto wasn’t and the silver haired girl named Katsuki wasn’t either. “That’s weird…Where’s Sasuke-kun at?” Shikamaru lazily glanced at her. “Why you care so much about that guy I don’t even know.” Ino glared at him. “He’s Sasuke-kun of course! The perfect guy!” Rei snickered from where she was sitting, a row down from them. “You’re delusional. He doesn’t even like you. But at least he talks to Kitty and Naruto.” Ino’s eyes narrowed. “Kitty? Who’s that?” Rei laughed at the small display of jealousy. “Kat of course.” Hmm…this is interesting. We were called back here to be put on genin teams?

I’m so glad that Kurenai-san helped me…That damn bitch will get what’s coming to her!
Yeah! She’s going to really regret messing with us! SHANNARO!

Hinata gently tugged Rei’s sleeve. “R-Rei-c-chan…l-look” both of them looked down and stopped all conversation as they heard more familiar names being read off. “Team Eight consists of Kiba Inuzuka, Shino Aburame and Rei Kenzu. Team nine will consist of Rock Lee, Neji Hyuuga and Tenten. Team ten will consist of Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akimichi and Ino Yamanaka, Medical Nin Team eleven will consist of Sakura Haruno, Hinata Hyuuga, Sami Kansho. Your jounin sensei’s will meet you outside.”

I didn’t know that there was a medic nin team! Sakura shouted in her mind. She looked to Ino when she heard the noise that she was making. Ino was mortified. She knew that this had to mean that Katsuki was on Sasuke’s team and that wasn’t fair at all in her mind. “Why does that silver haired girl get to be on Sasuke-kun’s team!!! It’s not fair at all!!” She was wailing in her mind, and Sakura couldn’t help but agree with her. Iruka’s maddening aura was surrounding him. “This wasn’t MY decision for the formation of the genin teams, it was hokage-sama’s!” He said tensely. Both of them shut up quickly and the teams filed out of the class room.

------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------

Kat sighed in slight frustration. It had been two whole hors and Kakashi hadn’t shown up yet. “Where is Kakashi-sensei at anyway?” She muttered and looked up at the sky. “He said twenty minutes, not two hours!” She leaned against the railing that was behind her. “Damn…” She whispered softly. “What the hell could be taking so long?” Naruto nodded. “Yeah! Where’s Kakashi-sensei?!?” Sasuke stared at Kat in slight interest. Most girls that chased him around didn’t curse, and she wasn’t like a normal fan girl at all.

The leaves rustled with the wind and a gentle breeze blew against the trio’s bodies. “Aaah. That’s nice.” Kat murmured, the cool breeze felt refreshing on the warm day. Two and a half hours had now passed and Kakashi had finally appeared in the clearing, lazily walking into it from the right. “Hey Sasuke, maybe we should throw some kunai at him just because he was so late?” He smirked slightly at this but answered with, “No, he’d simply dodge it.” She grinned as she finally saw Kakashi’s figure approaching them and Naruto jumped up. “YOU’RE LATE KAKASHI-SENSEI!” He shouted. “More like two and a half hors late…” Kat interjected. Kakashi sighed. “Well, I was lost on the paths that led me here, and I had a little coral problem.” Kat sighed irritably. “That’s so lame…” Sasuke agreed with her and nodded. “Why were you really late sensei?” the only female in the group asked.

“Let’s forget about that. To start off with, are their any dreams, desires, likes, or dislikes that you’d like to share with us? Let’s start off with Kat.” He moved over to sit down on the railing parallel from them and waited for Kat to start off.

“Well, I’m Katsuki Nakami, I like to be called Kat, and as you know, Rei-chan calls me Kitty as well. As for my dreams, I’d have to say that I want to be the greatest kunoichi that I could be. I want to be as great as Tsunade-sama is! Oh, and I absolutely love dango. It’s…the best! I like to train to get stronger and to shop for weapons. I dislike annoying fan girls that don’t have a cold hearted bone in their body to fight…and to kill if necessary.” Her eyes darkened and she gritted out, “A dream, no mission of mine is to hunt down a kill the murderer of my parents, and the rest of my clan.” Kat fell silent and stared at Kakashi.

Sasuke glanced at Kat with a look of understanding. He knew how it felt to have your whole clan mercilessly killed and you’d find the bodies of them when she was so young. He didn’t really like her, but she was more of an asset to his training and she didn’t latch onto him like all of his other fan girls. That brought her on a higher pedestal than any other girl than he knew.

Kakashi grinned as he saw Sasuke glance at Kat then avert his eyes as he was lost in thought. At least she takes her life as a kunoichi seriously. Most girls her age would be infatuated with boys and their appearance. It seems like there’s two sides of her.

Her past is somewhat similar to Sasuke’s. She seems a lot like Anko with hr actions. She wants to be on par with Tsunade-hime? Interesting.
She‘d have to be trained by her herself, but she has great potential already.

“You’re turn blondie.” Naruto almost blew up at this, but he cooled himself down with Kat‘s soft glance.

“Yoshi! I’m Naruto Uzumaki! I’m going to be the next hokage you better believe it! I love ramen from Ichiraku’s, I like training, and what I hate is Sasuke-teme and the villagers that hate others…”

Becoming hokage is no short feat. He would have a large battle ahead of him to achieve his goal. Many of the villagers would be against it because he’s the vessel of the Kyuubi.
“Your turn Sasuke.” He glanced at the brooding boy and grinned as he glared at him.

Sasuke’s voice was cool as he began his introduction of sorts. “My name is Uchiha Sasuke. I have no desire to share my likes or dislikes with you. My dream, no desire is to kill a certain man.” He stated coldly.

So I have an Avenger, the Kyuubi vessel, and a girl that’s a mixture of Anko and one that’s out for blood? Kami-sama help me…He sighed softly. Looking lazily at his group of genins, he chuckled softly. “Some taijutsu training would do you all good.” Both Kat’s and Naruto’s eyes lit up and a glint had appeared in Sasuke’s eyes. “Naruto and Sasuke will pair off for the first hour and a half, and then Kat will switch.” Kat grinned at Kakashi. “Yoshi! Let’s get this started!”

Hinata was fidgeting nervously in a large hospital classroom, and she could hear Sakura and Sami talking quietly. The door to the classroom opened and shut quickly, a young female kunoichi stood in front of them. Her long blue-black hair reached her waist and as she stared at them with a calculating gaze, it seemed like her sharp purple eyes would pierce through their bodies.

Kaiya smiled at Hinata’s nervous nature. “So you’re my new genin team? You’re going to need a lot of work…Let me introduce myself, I’m Kaiya Suzuki. The main thing that I really want to know at this point is Your names and what part of medicine that your interested in.”

Sami’s grin was almost identical to one of Kat’s when she was in one of her moods. “I’m Sami Kansho Well…I like fighting, but the surgery part of the medic-nin teams always have interested me.” Kaiya nodded. “I can help you with that.” She said, and looked to Sakura.

“What about you?” The pink haired genin froze. “I’m sakura Haruno I never really gave it much thought….I just want to be able to help my friends…” She murmured. And OUR SASUKE-KUN! Shrieked her inner self. Kaiya looked at her with amusement. “There’s a lot that you could do to help. We could work with you as well.” She lifted her gaze to Hinata. “Do you have an idea?”

Hinata nodded softly. “I-I’m Hinata H-Hyuuga. I-I’m interested in surgery as well…I could be a lot of help there.” Kaiya brightened up at this. “Great! Now that we at least know what everyone’s interested in, we’re going to start out with reading some books to study the human anatomy.” she grabbed three large books and sat them on the table behind them. “Here you go you guys. Read to page forty, and if you have any questions, ask me.” She walked back to a seat and sat down to watch them.

Sami’s mouth twitched in a smile as she continued to read the pages of the book lazily. She didn’t need to ask any questions at all because she got what they were saying. Looking over to sakura, she saw that she had a troubled look in her eyes, but she didn’t call sensei over or asked a question at all. She glanced at Hinata and smiled because she was reading with the same ease as she was. Is it because of her byakugan? She can see the inner pathways of a person, mainly the chakra pathways, if I remember correctly…no, that can’t be right. It’s just because of her upbringing, she’s just smart.

Kaiya’s soft voice brought all of their attention onto her. “How far have you gotten?” she asked, her eyes sweeping from Sami to Hinata. “Twenty eight.” Sakura answered without restraint. Sami smirked internally and answered with “Thirty one.” Hinata nodded at Sami’s declaration. “I-I’m on thirty one as well.” she said in a soft voice. “It’s nice to see that my genins aren’t incompetent.” Kaiya said and looked at them appraisingly. “Finish up, and we shall visit the medical ward. We will continue there.”

Ten minutes later, the three had finished reading and the three books were closed tightly. Standing up, Kaiya led them out and to the medical ward where Hinata was staring with wide eyes. Sami looked at her with concern. “What’s the matter?” She shook her head. “N-nothing…” she squeaked. She didn’t want them to know that she was half afraid of being in here, but with every step, she was slowly overcoming it.

The group had stopped and stood quiet when they noticed that their teacher was speaking with the hokage. “Ah…Of course…They’ll have the day off and train with them tomorrow…” Sandaime left quickly, needing his pipe. “What was that about Kaiya-sensei?” She looked down at them. “You’re not always going to learn medic-nin techniques, you’re going to be training with the other genin teams. Tomorrow you’re going to be training with team eight.” Sakura’s eyes widened. “But why? Why can’t it be Sasuke-kun’s team?!?” Kaiya smiled softly. Because this is a direct order from the Third himself. You all are dismissed. There’s nothing else that you have to do today.”

Sakura grumbled as she walked out of the hospital, she was in a really bad mood. Hinata stayed away from her in favor of going on the other side of Sami. “S-sayonara S-Sami-c-chan…S-sayonara, S-Sakura c-chan.” Sami waved goodbye to Hinata. “Bye Hinata-Chan!” She walked the opposite way that Sami and Sakura was, towards the Hyuuga district. As Sakura and Sami came to the usual path that they parted at, they didn’t say any good byes. Sakura stayed silent and Sami glared at her. “Bye Sakura.” She said tersely. And followed the path down to her house.
