Chapter 4: meeting the team

as the days progressed I felt more and more at home in this village. No longer did people see me as a scarred outsider, but as one of them. The ninja exams went well for me and the others, I graduated along with the rest. Save for the boy, Naruto. I had talked to him and found out that he is a very pleasant person, if a bit crazy. After the graduation I walked outside and saw him sitting on a swing underneath a tree. “Hey Naruto,” I said as I sat on the ground next to him. “You ok?”
He looked up and I saw that there were tears in his eyes. He tried his best to smile. “Hey Ha-chan,”
he said. “I guess im ok..” He stopped for a moment when we saw two women standing off to the side. They were leering at Naruto. We only heard snippets of the conversation they were having. “he’s not like us..... Remember what happened 16 years ago..... Demon fox..... Don’t talk about that its forbidden!” I stood up and glared at them, daring them to say more. Their eyes widened and they left. “Thanks Ha-chan..” he said sadly. “Don’t mention it..,” I said still a bit angry at what those women had been talking about. “Someone has to stick up for you. How dare they say things like that about you!” He smiled a little. “c’mon Naruto. Cheer up! I’ll treat you to..,” I lowered my voice. “Ramen!” His face brightened immensely “HAI!!” he said happily. I laughed and thought ‘I knew it! The way to lift a boy’s spirits is with food!’. As we walked to the ramen shop we passed Sasuke. I smiled at him and he nodded. He knew about what happened to my family and who had done it. It was one of the things we had in common. We talked occasionally, but never for very long. When we got to the ramen shop I saw a familiar pink-haired Ninja. And I laughed inwardly as Naruto’s face brightened even more. “Good morning Sakura-chan!!” he said happily. I saw Sakura shudder slightly. “O..oheyo Naruto-kun!” she said trying to smile. I don’t think Naruto noticed as he slurped up his ramen that was just placed in front of him. I chuckled again and went to go talk with Sakura. I met her the first day of the ninja classes and we quickly became friends. I found out that she was completely OBSESSED with Sasuke and that she thought that he was the most attractive boy in the whole of Konoha. I agreed. He was rather good-looking, with his dark, brooding eyes and personality to match(if I ever make a modern-American highschool fic, Sasuke will be a goth! Lol). After we were done talking I noticed that Naruto had three empty bowls of Ramen and that he was working on a fourth! ‘Oh.. My.. God!’ I thought. ‘we better go before all my money is gone!’ “Naruto,” I said kindly “its getting late.. We both better be getting home!” ‘Before all my life savings are in your stomach..-.-;;’ I added in my mind. He looked a little disappointed and savored his last noodle and burped loudly. I laughed and payed the shop owner then we left. I said goodbye to Naruto and hugged him. “Keep smiling kid, things will look better in the morning!” he looked a little doubtful so I patted him on the shoulder and headed home. It took me a little longer than usual since I walked through the park. There was an unsettling feeling in my mind that wouldn’t go away. I got home an hour later and saw that Kakashi wasn’t home. I looked in my room and saw that there was a note on my pillow. It read:
Hana,
Some urgent business has come up. It appears that Naruto has stolen an important scroll from one of the shrines and we have to get it back. Don’t worry yourself about this I will be home soon.
Kakashi
I widened my eyes and shook my head. “oh Naruto..” I sighed, “baka.” and went to sleep.Converting /tmp/phpouOw8P to /dev/stdout
