Chapter 2

~*~*~*~

“Sasuke-san,” a female voice softly called out from behind the Uchiha. When he turned, she held up the obi. “I can't tie it…and I do not know where Haruno-san is…”

Sasuke sighed, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Come here, I'll tie it,” he told her. She walked up to him and turned around, lifting her arms so that he could tie the long silk brocade properly.

“Ano…why are we dressing up?” she asked him quietly when he finished.

“Hm? Ah, I thought you'd like to go to matsurii,” he replied absentmindedly. “You've never been to one here before. Today, they're having a play on `Kaguya Hime', I believe.” He turned back to his scroll, frowning slightly and didn't see the small flicker of life in the girl's usually emotionless eyes.

She sat there for a moment longer before getting up with a muffled rustle of cloth and silently leaving. She walked out into the cool afternoon breeze and looked out into the distance with unfocused eyes. `Kaguya Hime…I wonder…'

Sasuke looked down at the girl beside him, looking almost unreal in the moonlight. Her eyes seemed to be a reflection of the moon, a silvery blue. He had been startled the first time he had seen those eyes…now, he couldn't look away from them. When had he started to feel this way for her? He didn't know and now, he simply did not care.

“Sasuke-san,” she said, never looking away from the fish in her hand. “Do I have something on my face?”

“Ah, no, it's nothing…” he replied.

At his answer, she looked at him curiously but didn't comment.

Flushing just the slightest bit to have been caught looking at her, he turned away slightly and noticed the stage for the play being set up. “Don't you want to see the play?” he asked.

“Hmm…maybe,” she told him, swinging the bag holding her fish slightly.

He smiled at her and took one of her small hands in his. He started towards the stage but was stopped by a slight tugging on his sleeve. He turned to face her and his smile disappeared when he saw the blonde heading towards them. `Uzumaki Naruto…why are you bothering me right now?!' He turned and started to walk away again when her voice stopped him in his tracks.

“Ano, Sasuke-san, isn't that Naruto-san?” she asked, looking amused.

“SASUKE!!” Naruto yelled and slid to a stop a few feet ahead of Sasuke. “Oops, I misjudged it a bit,” he said, walking back to the two. “Anyways! Why were you walking away?! I know you saw me!”

“…I didn't want to have to deal with the not-so-very welcome and very public attention you would have made sure to give me…” Sasuke replied in a dry voice.

“Eh?! That's not nice…” Naruto mumbled. “Che, I see how it is. You go off with your girlfriend and ignore your friends, is that it?”

“…Girlfriend? Who are you referring to as--,” Sasuke was cut off by Naruto's finger pointing at the silent girl next to Sasuke, her hand still gripped in his. “…Baka,” was all he said before walking off.

“HEY! Come back!” Naruto called out to his retreating back. “I'm not finished here!”

“Sasuke-san? Is it okay to just leave him there?” she looked as if she was trying to keep from laughing.

“Yeah. He'll probably look for Sakura to bother now,” he told her.

“Demo…Haruno-san is right there…” She gestured to a spot to the right of them and Sasuke stopped, looking for his pink-haired friend.

He received quite a bit of a shock when he finally saw her in a dark corner…with Shikamaru. “…I think we better get going…” he said, stunned. He had never thought that Sakura and Shikamaru were…

A quiet laugh from the girl brought him out of his thoughts. “The...look on your face…” she trailed off.

Sasuke looked down at her laughing face and he felt his heart speed up. `I want to keep her with me forever…' was the thought that ran through his mind at that moment. But all he did was lightly hit her head and ask, “I find myself offended at that remark about my face…”

The two walked on towards the stage, she still laughing, and he with a contented look on his face. The moon was full…and not a single cloud marred its cold beauty…
