"Maybe he's realized the error of his ways and decided to leave you alone as he promised," Patrick said slowly.
It got quiet then suddenly Rio, Gabe, and Leia started laughing. "Whatever!" Leia laughed.
"She's his heir. As long as she's breathing he will be around to fuck with her."
"I wouldn't be so certain," he said beneath his breath. Leaning over, he kissed Leia, licking chocolate icing from her lip.
She winced. "Watch the stitches," she said. "What happened to your hand?"
"His car broke down and he tried to fix it on his own. Lost a contact too," Rio said.
"It's a new car," Leia said slowly. She grabbed the phone and started calling the dealership. "I'll get this fixed and get you a new car. I'm going to make sure the jackass that sold it to me is fired."
"Don't worry about it," he said, taking her hand and slowly pushing the phone back down. "I was driving rather fast, probably just burnt it out. It's running fine now."
She looked him over. "You sure? I can have you a better car before the end of the day."
"Don't," he smiled. "I can think of better things for you to waste your money on than another new car."
She put the phone down. "I can't. My baby's dead," she said bluntly. She went to the bathroom and shut the door then locked it. A few seconds later, the shower was running.
"You walked right into that walk," Gabe said shaking his head at Patrick.
He frowned, his hand clenching tightly into a fist. He should have hit him harder. A hell of a lot harder than he had originally done so. "So I see," he whispered.
A few minutes later, Leia walked out of the bathroom and Gabe handed her the overnight bag. He kissed her forehead, then Rio kissed her forehead and she walked out with Patrick. They got into the car and she looked it over making sure nothing was wrong with it.
"I figured we'd just order out. Watch some movies and relax." He wanted to keep her happy. He wanted to try and keep her from suffering at the hands of her father anymore than she already had.
She nodded. "Sure, sounds good," she said.
He reached out and took her hand, intertwining their fingers as he pulled up to his house. "Let's get you inside. How about Chinese? Greek? Italian? All of it?"
She looked over at him with a smirk. "You don't have to try so hard. I'm ok," she assured him.
"I just..." he shook his head. "I don't know what to do." He rubbed his hand, trying to smile. Getting out of the car, he opened up her door and helped her bring her stuff inside.
"Breathing would be a start and acting normal would be another great start. The baby's dead, my mother's last memory is gone, but I'll live. And so will you." She sat on the bed, her hand running over the sheets.
"Do you know what the first thought that crossed my mind was when Rio showed up at my door to take me to the hospital?" He sat down beside her, wrapping his arm around her and bringing her to him. "I thought that you were dead. I thought that your father had killed you."
"He's not that stupid. Not yet anyways," she said as she looked at him. He was being really clingy. "Are you ok?"
"Like I said. For a few minutes there I thought you were dead. Those were really long minutes. Then I found out that the child was dead." He sighed, closing his eyes. "I'm just glad that you're okay." No way he could tell her what he did. He was lucky that her father didn't stay in America to hunt down the bastard who beat him within an inch of his life. Then again, for all he knew he could be in a hospital somewhere.
Letting go of her, he stood and kicked off his shoes. Turning on the television, he went to the fridge to grab a soda.
"I don't know why you would be so worried," she said as she got comfortable on the bed to watch the TV. "I don't think my dad would kill me in public."
"I wouldn't know. All I've heard are the horror stories," he said, popping open the soda. "For all I knew he killed you then threw money everywhere to make everyone suddenly blind."
She laughed. "Gabe wouldn't be that blind." She took the soda from him and sipped on it. "The draw back is that we can't have sex for a few days."
"I think I can keep it in my pants for a little while," he promised with a smirk.
"I don't believe you," she smiled. "I'm going back to the doctor in a few days for a check up...I'm going to get some birth control."
He nodded slowly as he heard this. "I'll buy some bigger condoms as well."
She handed him his soda then turned to the TV. It was silent for a while. "You mad about the miscarriage?"
"Yes, but not at you. I'm mad at your father."
She nodded. "Me too."
"At least you won't have to worry with him for quite some time."
She shook her head. "You don't know my father. He's only hit me a few times, but he always calls to wave money in face to make it go away," she said. Just as she was about to say more, her phone rang. She smirked. "And there he is now," she said as she looked at the caller ID. She opened her phone. "What?"
"Hello, Leia. This is Guy Harbor, your father's lawyer," the man said on the other line.
"Is he cutting me off?" Leia asked.
The man was quiet. "Why would your father cut you off?" Of course her father wouldn't tell his lawyer he hit his teenager daughter for having a big mouth. "Leia, your father is in the hospital here in France."
Leia yawned. "Is he dying?"
"Well...no, but-"
"Then why are you calling me? Unless he's dying I really don't care."
"He was attacked at the airport. I thought you should know..."
"I don't care if he got hit by a car and broke all his bones. That man means very little to me so unless his life is in serious danger, you can tell him to go suck it," she said sternly.
"You're father didn't ask me to call...I just thought you would want to know since you are his heir," he said softly. "I don't understand why you are being so cold."
"Obviously you don't know a thing about father and you don't know me. Don't call my number again and have my father wire the money the bastard owes me," she said coldly and hung up. She glanced at Patrick. "My father was attacked at the airport. Isn't that funny?" she smirked. She sent a text to Gabe and Rio letting them know as well.
"Your father was attacked?" Patrick said, whistling in surprise. "Probably a mugger trying to get his money."
She shrugged. "Not my problem. The guy should have killed him." She thought a moment then smiled. "Maybe someone saw him hit a innocent girl and decided to get even," she laughed. "We were in a public place."
He smirked and nodded. "Well, at least the bastard got a little justice."
"I wish it were me but I'm sure I'd break something on me if I tried attacking him," she said with a smirk. "Last time I hit him I broke my hand."
He chuckled at that. He'd never known his sister to have any trouble hitting people, but she wasn't nearly as fragile as Leia was. "I guess it's just karma. Eventually something bad was bound to happen to him."
She nodded. "I was thinking...I'd like to try and meet your family again."
This was a huge step for Leia. She never cared to meet anyone's family and she surely didn't get close enough to a guy to let him take her to meet his family. But they shared a life together...even though it was dead. And after everything he had said to her the day she told him she was pregnant...she couldn't help but let her heart go a little soft. Of course, she would never tell Gabe or Rio this because they would think she was much to serious about Patrick. Meeting the family is like setting it in stone that she and him were serious. But...were they?
"Are you...certain about this? It won't be an easier this time." He wanted to make certain that she realized she was signing her own death warrant when it came to this. His sister, well, there was no real way to put other than his sister could be the devil when she wanted to be.
"I could always just leave again," she smiled. "I'll tell you this time though," she winked. "And I'm wearing jeans."
"Jeans are definitely a good idea," he smirked. "How about we go next week? Michael is suppose to be getting home on leave. The family will be getting together to celebrate." He paused as he looked at her. "Or...is that too much family at once?"
She shook her head. "It should be fine. But...how will you explain to your family about us?"
"Rachel owes me a favor," he smirked. "She'll have everyone too busy to really think twice about the little girl on arm."
"Little girl?" She moved to him. "I don't think of myself as a little girl." She smirked. "Especially when you are on top of me."
He smirked, wrapping his arms around her, he laid back, pulling her onto his chest. "How exactly do you feel when you're beneath me?"
"Like a God," she whispered in his ear.
Two days before Leia was to meet with Patrick's family, Gabe had finally set her down. She didn't spend much time in her room. She only slept there but she changed in the living room. He ran his hands through her hair as she stared at him.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she said with narrow eyes.
"You haven't talked about the...baby..."
She stiffened and pulled from him. "Because there is nothing to talk about. It's dead."
"Leia...you bought all those things and you won't go in your closet even though those things aren't there anymore," he said with smooth words.
"You need to leave me alone," she said coldly.
He grabbed her arm roughly and she looked at him with wide eyes. "Stop it. Stop running and talk. It's time you let it out because it's only going to hurt more if you don't."
Usually, she would scream at him or push him away or even threaten his life, but she was tired. Tired of being 'ok' when she wasn't. Her face softened and Gabe's grip on her loosened. His eyes washed over her while she looked out the window. "It was suppose to be my family, you know? Something that loved me and wanted to stick around. Something that needed me. I had all these plans and I was excited about having something of my own that wouldn't leave. My real blood family." She turned to him. "Do you understand?"
He nodded and pulled her to him. "You just wanted a family."
"Don't tell Rio or Mr. McClain. I'm fine. I really am. I just need time to adjust to the new reality..." she whispered.
"Michael!" Patrick was smiling from ear to ear as he heard his brother on the phone. "It's great to hear from you! I'm glad that ye made it back safely."
"Aye, so am I. It's great to be able to see my baby girl after all this time."
Patrick froze as he heard this, his voice soft as he nodded to the voice on the phone. "Aye, I'm certain it is. You'll be at the dinner this weekend right?"
"Of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world. Even Jacob is suppose to be joining us."
"He's back from Ireland?"
"Yes, for a little while."
Leia put her jeans on and a shirt with a light jacket. It was October so it was getting a little cool out. She got in the car with Rio after kissing Gabe bye and Rio drove her to Patrick's house. She gave Rio a kiss goodbye then watched him drive off as Patrick was coming out of the house for the family gathering. "I wore tight jeans so the boys won't have anything to pull on me," she smirked. "And I got candy to bribe them to leave me alone." She held up a bag. "I'm ready this time."
Patrick smirked as he looked her up and down. "Yes, well, they should be on their best behavior since their dad and Michael will be there." Patrick was obviously excited about seeing his older brother. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck. "If it gets too bad there is always plenty of whiskey."
She smirked at that and they got into the car. They were silent as they drove to his sister's house. Outside were a bunch of cars parked and she could hear laughter in the back yard as well as the house. She sat in the car for a moment just listening and trying to get up the courage. Finally she opened the door and got out just as his sister came to the front door to see who had driven up.
It got quiet then suddenly Rio, Gabe, and Leia started laughing. "Whatever!" Leia laughed.
