Chapter One: Morning at the dojo

The sun had only been up for an hour our so and already Kenshin was busy.
Flicking his crimson hair out of his eyes, Kenshin continued to scrub away and the
dojo's floor. His back was starting to ache and his hands were rubbed red from the
rough rags he was working with, but it didn't matter. He was so close, just a bit more
and he'd be done.

He could hear Karou and Yahiko already practicing out in the yard. The
rythmic snaps of their boken, mixed with Yahiko's grumblings and Karou's indignant
cries when the young boy called her names was music to Kenshin's ears. It told him
he was home.

Suddenly Kenshin felt the flair of a familiar ki coming towards the dojo. Sano
had most likely been out all night gambling again and wanted a free meal. Kenshin sighed
happily feeling for a small moment like he was at peace. Then in race Yahiko followed
closely by a yelling Karou. Both tracked in mud, courtesy of last night's rain, all over
Kenshin's newly cleaned floors. Kenshin watched in horror as all of his work went to
waste. Anger bubbled up inside him, but he quickly stamped it down as he went to
fetch more water. He had just stepped out in to the yard when he saw Sano barreling
towards him.

"Hey Sano." Kenshin greeted.

"No time! Come on!" Sano panted as he grabbed Kenshin's arm and dragged him
back into the dojo.

After slamming the sliding doors shut Sano collapsed panting and no one could
get anything out of him. Figuring that what ever Sano had to say wouldn't be good,
Kenshin went to prepare tea. By the time he returned Sano wasw breathing normaly and
was ready to tell them his news.
