Surge laid beside Manic, her head on his shoulder.

 Manic was fast asleep.

Surge stared blankly at Manic. “He gets to sleep.” She thought. “How’s that remotely fair?”

Surge rubbed her belly as the babies started kicking again. “I’m holding Manic to his promise to wake up to help me with them.” She thought. “They’re all lucky they’re so cute.”

 Surge’s phone chimed.

 Surge checked her messages.

Starline was demanding her to check in immediately.

Surge sighed. “Gives me a chance to talk to Kit.” She thought. She glanced at Manic, then eased out of the bed. “I’ll be home before he wakes up.”

Surge pulled a ring out and tossed it into the air. She stepped through it.

Surge shuffled into Dr. Starline’s throne room. “You called?”

“You’re lucky I don’t have the energy to care that you’re here in your pajamas.” Dr. Starline said, motioning to Surge’s oversized sweatshirt dress.

“I don’t have the energy to care what you think.” Surge muttered.

“Yeah, I heard the news.” Dr. Starline replied. “You’ve definitely put those idiots at ease. Good job.”

 “…Thank you, sir.” Surge replied.

“Don’t worry, you won’t have to deal with those brats after the takeover.” Dr. Starline said, checking over some files on his gauntlet.

Surge looked down, rubbing her stomach with one hand.

 The babies stopped wiggling around.

Dr. Starline raised an eyebrow, then nodded. “You’re attached to Manic and his little brats now, aren’t you?”

“How do I answer that?” Surge thought.

“I can spare them; just make sure Manic doesn’t try to fight us.” Dr. Starline said. “All you have to say is that you want them spared.”

“Yes, I want them spared.” Surge replied.

“Alright, then.” Dr. Starline said. “They’ll be spared. He’s nowhere near as powerful as his brother or Shadow is anyway. You’re dismissed. Kit’s somewhere if you want to see him before you leave.”

“Thanks.” Surge replied. She left the room to check on Kit.

Surge found Kit in the living room, reading a book.

Kit set the book down. “I heard the news.” He said in a low tone. “Are you okay? Are they boys or girls?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Surge replied. “It’s two boys and a girl. We named them Glitch, Nikòs, and Cyber. We’re all healthy and Manic’s bending over backwards for me.”

“Aww.” Kit said. He pinned his ears back. “I’m sorry you had to do all of this though.”

“It’s okay.” Surge replied. “It’s better with Manic anyway. I actually have more of a life now.”

“I’m glad.” Kit said. He hung his head. “Wish I could say the same. It’s worse here now.”

“You want to leave with me?” Surge whispered.

“I’m trying to gather more intel before I do.” Kit whispered back.

Surge handed Kit a ring. “Use this if you need to leave.” She whispered. “Just think of Manic’s room in the palace, then toss it.”

Kit nodded. He stuffed the ring in his coat pocket, then zipped the pocket closed. “Thanks.”

“You’re welcome.” Surge replied. “Stay safe, kid.”

Surge pulled out another ring and tossed it into the air. She stepped through the portal to hers and Manic’s room as soon as it opened up.

 The portal closed.

Manic was still asleep as Surge sat down on the bed.

“Should I tell him?” Surge thought. “Kit’s still in danger though. If he gets the info, we may be able to take them out easier, especially with Shadow and Sonic’s powers.”

Manic woke up and yawned. “G’morning, babe.” He said, sitting up.

 “G’morning.” Surge replied.

Manic eased closer to Surge and rubbed her belly. “How’s my little dudes and dudette this morning?” He asked. “Are you behaving for your Ma?”

“Sorta.” Surge replied. “They’re more active at night now.”

“Ma said that’s normal.” Manic said. “Just a few more weeks.”

Manic hugged Surge. “I love you, Babe.”

“Love you too.” Surge said, frowning.

“If this doesn’t work, I hope Starline keeps his promise.” Surge thought.
