Chapter 1:
Return to Delacroix
The Vampiric City of Delacroix, September 16, 12191 A.D. This city was a harbor for vampires and humans alike. It was rather peaceful here now, with the exception of a few robberies and the occasional murder. Michelle wandered through these hallowed streets, which were deserted this time of night, except for bat demons and sometimes a vampire or two. One bat demon in particular flocked to the dhampire girl's right shoulder.Return to Delacroix
"Miss Michelle, so nice to see you again! How long has it been?" asked Nosferatu, Michelle's assigned protector ever since Michelle was old enough to walk.
"Twenty-six long years, Nosferatu. And I must say that not much has changed since that time..." Michelle drifted off for a moment, then turned her head to Nosferatu. "I never saw my mother's funeral. Tell me, is the crypt still untouched?"
Nosferatu grew nervous. "Yeah, about that..."
"What happened?" Michelle asked, recognizing the tension. Without waiting for an answer from her "pet," she ran to the old castle on the edge of town: Link Manor. Blasting the door open, she hooked a right, down a long flight of stairs to the place where her family's bodies were kept. There, utter shock filled her eyes as some of the stone boxes were broken into. She ran toward the box that was completely destroyed at the side, but appeared the newest. As she suspected, the inscription on it read, "Charlotte Link. December 28, 12070- March 5, 12165. In pace requiescat."
March 5, 12165. The day that illness claimed Michelle's mother and the day Michelle herself cut her long hair to shoulder length and ran away far from Delacroix, far from both treasured and tragic memories.
Michelle walked over to the open hole and took the skeleton's left arm to check if something was missing. Sure enough, it was.
"They stole her ring. Damn! My father gave her that ring to symbolize eternal love. And then those bastard vandals come and steal it. Shit!"
"She wanted to be buried with that ring on her finger. It was in her will. We can all thank God that your father wasn't buried with anything of value!" Nosferatu shouted proudly.
"They broke into there too?" Michelle turned her head nervously, only to find that her father was just on the opposite side of the late Charlotte. "Buried side by side," she whispered, walking over to the front of the tomb, reading the inscription to herself.
"Meier Link. October 27, 8756- July 24, 12106. In pace requiescat." Michelle gave a cry of anguish and fell to her knees, sulking. Nosferatu flew over to her, landing on her shoulder and gently stroking her hair with his right paw.
"Did you at least find Lord Meier's murderer?"
Michelle shook her head. "No. Whoever he was, he's still out there. I got a tip that the only man who entered the village that day was a dhampire, like me. And there are quite a few of those."
"Which means?" Nosferatu queried.
Michelle rose to her feet. "We need the help of a hunter. I know the perfect one. He was the one who took down Lady Carmilla. His name I know not, but I can find him."
A/N: "In pace requiescat" means "May they rest in peace" in Latin.
