"Hidden"
Chapter 3 of Part 1

"I'm sorry... I should have helped you too."
A weird cold tickle trailed down my spine and I jerked my head to look up in the
corner of the room. There I saw a faint outline of a woman with blue hair sitting on a
wooden oar, a small girl with dark blue hair, and… Yuske. I quickly looked away, not
knowing what to think. I gazed down at Yuske's barely alive body, feeling guiltier.
"I could have saved him… he could be alive… and not here laying helpless in
this room."
I then slowly bent down, drawing nearer to Yuske's face. I closed my eyes and softly
touched Yuske's lips. I don't know why, but my feelings overwhelmed me for that
brief minute. I pulled away and lay down next to his bedding. I then fell asleep.

Moments later, I awoke to the smell of smoke. I opened my eyes to see the
room was filling with bright orange flames. I jumped up and started to rush for the
door, but stopped. I looked back at Yuske's motionless body… and thought about my
kiss. I knelt back down beside him. I wrapped him up in the sheet and lifted him up
into my arms. I then got up to leave again. A wooden beam suddenly came crashing
down, blocking my only exit. The fire was growing bigger and time passed. Another
beam fell behind me, covering up the window.
"I WILL DO THIS! I WILL! AND NOT EVEN THE HEAVENS CAN
STOP ME!"
I screamed. I then rushed to the doorway and kicked as hard as I could, breaking the
large wooden beam right in half. Holding Yuske close against me to shield him from
the heat, I ran through the house while dodging the rising flames. Finally, I saw the
light from outside coming from the front door. I ran faster, but fire leapt up and
burned my legs. I fell to the ground, with Yuske now sprawled out in front of me. I
struggled to pull myself closer to him. All of a sudden, the harsh orange fire around
me turned to a soft blue and the heat died down. I struggled to get up and pull Yuske
up with me. The, limping and favoring my left leg, I started towards the door again. I
then saw a tall red-haired boy coming in my direction.
"Come on!"
He put my arm over his shoulder and we then hurried out the front door just as the
whole roof collapsed. The paramedics tended to my wounds and tried to take Yuske
away. I broke free of the boy's grip and ran over to Yuske, shielding him.
"Leave him!"
I shouted angrily at them. They backed off then left in their van. Keiko came back
minutes later.
"I'm so sorry, Patches! I could have gotten you killed!"
"I'm fine now, Keiko. He got me out, along with Yuske."
I nodded to the boy standing beside me.
"Oh bless you, Kuwabara!"
"It was nothing."
He said. I got up from the brick lining of the small garden and went over to the wheel
chair where Yuske had been placed. I smiled and kneeled in front of him, Keiko and
the other boy looking at me with curiosity.
"You're welcome… Yuske Urameshi…"
