---- Recap ----

SSJ: LAST TIME on GINGA GIRI GIRI!

Amiko: Mauzel finally overcomes Virus, and the final showdown commenced!

Kensou: Virus takes all our blows and still stands, but Davis was ready.

Davis: Heck yes! I busted out the Sigma and pwned Virus!

TM: And then, we open the Ether Gate and have to work together to close it.

Van: And finally, Virus is gone! On with the show!

---- Chapter 96: Break of Dawn ----

The sun hadn't risen yet on the day after the battle and a large hospital in Solarice was
silently sleeping. The skies were a dark shade of purple, not a cloud in the sky as the
purple began to lighten.

SSJ sat up in his hospital bed, dressed in bandages and his tattered black pants. He
silently stared at the still city; eyes narrow as he thought of many things. He looked upon
himself and felt the scars of his many battles. He felt the scar on cheek that he received
from Mauzel, and on his other was a scar he received from the Rantmon battle.

He saw the many scars and wounds upon his hands and arms, feeling how deep they were from
the constant fighting for almost eight months. He leaned upon the wall behind his bed,
staring at the ceiling.

He remembered everything clearly, from catching Relena for the first time to the Ether Gate
behind Virus. From the battle at Naraku's palace to Sauron's challenge at Barad Dur. It was
all etched into memories. He could never forget it, even if he tried.

SSJ glanced at a calendar upon the wall opposite his bed. It was the second of May. Their
last school day was on the sixteenth of September. He wondered what happened to everyone at
home- the teachers, the classmates, or the old friends.

He heard the door open and a person enter just then, and even in the darkness, he
recognized the person as Momo. SSJ looked back at the open window. "Yo," he said quietly.

"Hi," Momo responded with a smile. "Are you feeling okay?"

SSJ replied, "Yeah. I am." There was a short silence then as SSJ looked upon his bandaged
self again. "I actually haven't felt this calm for a long time," SSJ said to break the
silence. Momo looked up at SSJ, who had a calm smile. "We've been through eight months of
practically a war, and now... Everything seems to be over." SSJ turned to Momo. "You know
that feeling? After you spend so long on something and suddenly, it's over?" SSJ turned to
the window again. "I almost feel empty..."

Momo sat upon SSJ's bed, smiling to herself. She looked upon the ground and said, "Yeah, I
know that feeling. But, I don't see why you should be empty." Momo looked up at SSJ with
her smile, "You are too kind for fighting. We both are not fit to be constantly in danger.
Our lives... They're better off pursuing our dreams."

Momo then was presented with a thought. She asked, "Nee, SSJ..." SSJ looked up at her.
"What are your dreams? What do you want to do later in life?"

SSJ smiled. He answered, "I... I don't know, really. Where my life goes from here, I'm not
quite sure. But... I guess I've always wanted to own some huge company and make money for
doing nothing." Momo chuckled at that.

Momo was silent for a bit. Her cheeks became flushed as she tried to speak something.
"Well..." she trailed off. "Well, I'll help you along the way, okay?!" She said to SSJ with
a smile.

SSJ looked up at her with surprised eyes. Momo's smile disappeared once she saw his eyes
narrow in what seemed to be sadness. SSJ's gaze turned downward. There was an unbearable
silence between the two. "No, you won't," SSJ replied bluntly. "I didn't say I'd achieve my
dreams here." SSJ looked up to Momo, and he once again had his serene smile. "I can not
stay here in Terra. I must return home."

Momo's eyes widened with surprise as SSJ continued, "We all don't belong here. From the
beginning, we have never belonged. I remember when we were hated and chased by the police
so long ago. We were only sent here because of Mauzel's desire to defeat Virus. We have
done just that. I'm glad, though, that we have come to be accepted here, but along the
journey, I have come to realize that this isn't my world. I am not a Terran. I am an
Earthling." SSJ turned towards the dark sky outside his window. "We're no longer needed
here. We can not stay here and continue to hurt our families. That would be too selfish of
us."

Tears welled in Momo's eyes. SSJ became silent as he noticed Momo shaking. Momo stepped
away from the bed and stood before the window. She turned around with her eyes narrowed in
anger. She screamed, "Don't try and be so calm about this! 'That would be selfish?!' It'd
be selfish to leave me here, alone!"

"You won't be alone," SSJ replied. "You have your brother-"

"So?!" screamed Momo. "You still won't be there! Don't just go and make a speech about how
you completed your mission! This is your world! We want you all to stay! Don't make this
decision for yourself!"

"Thing is," SSJ began, "I bet the others came to this same conclusion."

Momo became silent, only sobbing to herself. She stood there, shaking. "You... You have
saved me," she told him. "Can't you understand anything?! It's because of you that I am
here today! It's because of you that I have my brother back! It's because of you that I can
smile again! So please, just stay here!"

She suddenly felt herself being pulled forward. Her head rested upon SSJ's shoulder as he
held her in an embrace with one arm. Momo's eyes widened in surprise. SSJ whispered in her
ear, "I know how you feel. But I definitely must go. Thank you, Momoko Yamatani." Momo's
eyes narrowed in sadness. She let the tears fall down her cheeks then, finally accepting
the truth.

Risika stepped through the halls of the hospital, whistling softly as she passed door after
door. She finally came to the room numbered 666. A rather strange number for its
inhabitant. She opened the door and peered through the small crack. "TM?" she whispered.
There was no answer.

She opened the door enough so she could stick her head through. There was TM, standing
beside the dark window, staring out the window. He turned back to her. He grinned. "Yo,"
was all he said before turning back to look at the sky of deep violet.

Risika's lips pursed at that. "You're somber today," said Risika.

TM's smile at the sky outside stayed constant. TM shut his eyes, thinking about all the
battles and enemies he had faced. He thought about the burden that had been upon his
shoulders for a good eight months. It had all come to an end. "I'm done," he said simply.
Without turning to Risika, he continued, "I've been on the road for a long time. It's about
time I had a break."

Risika sighed as she sat upon a chair by the door. "Even now, you're so lighthearted," she
muttered. "What will you do now? Where will you go from here?"

TM turned from the window, looking up at the ceiling in serious thought. "Hmm," he uttered
as he rubbed his chin. "I always wanted to be a professional pimp."

Risika sweatdropped as her eyes became narrow slits. "Ah, I figured that'd come from you,"
she simply murmured. TM grinned in reply.

Risika noticed TM's eyes become serious, then, the smile disappearing from his face. TM
sunk in a chair by the window, gaze falling to the ground. "I wonder, though, if we'll be
accepted back home," TM thought aloud.

"Huh?" Risika asked in surprise. "Why would you wonder that?"

"Well, we've been gone for so long, I don't know how everyone would react should we
return," TM replied. "I'm not even sure if they had worried about us while we were gone."

"That's ridiculous!" Risika shouted back. "Of course your family would have worried!"

"Still, it'll be strange. I'm so used to this fighting and conflict... This seems strange."
Risika sighed and looked to the door. She got to her feet and was about to bid him goodbye
when he suddenly laughed, "Hahaha...! That was so unlike me." Risika looked at TM in
surprise as he spoke more to himself than to her, "What am I saying? It doesn't matter
anyway, because I'll deal with it as it comes my way!" Risika smiled. She sorta liked him
when he was confident.

TM was by her side and placed an arm around her shoulders. "Thanks to you, Risika-" TM was
suddenly cut off by Risika's powerful grip, cutting off the circulation to his arm.

"You don't learn, do you?" Risika said with a smile. TM was forced to let go from the pain.

Davis awoke in the still silence, the air just as still as the hospital. He lay upon his
soft bed, eyes blurry, as he waited for his vision to focus. He saw the clear lines of the
ceiling tiles, with the piercing violet sky outside his window.

He rubbed his forehead as he sat up in his bed, seeing his gloves were no longer covering
his hands. They lay upon the table beside his bed, along with the armor that had covered
his back.

His hands had shaken all the time from the shock of fighting, but now it was finally over.
They still shook from fatigue and great pain. He was sore all over, and a night's rest did
little to relieve it.

Davis sighed, "This is it, huh?"

He turned towards the window, where the clear violet sky loomed before him. Dawn hadn't
even broken yet, and he couldn't fall back asleep. Davis, nevertheless, got to his feet,
his knees buckling from his weight.

Three years. It has been three years since he had met Frank Miguel and learned about the
Other World. It has been three years since he had agreed to look after the Other World when
Frank wasn't able to. It has been three years since he saw the first few persons to the
thriving world that was there today.

It was a wonder how Frank programmed five million years to pass within three on Earth. It
was even more of a wonder how real the world was, down to the subtle trembling of his knees
and fingers. Three years of closely working in the world, and it still managed to amaze him.

But he knew it was over. "My watch seems to be at an end," Davis muttered to himself. Davis
sat there, sighing to himself. 'This seems really weird,' was all Davis could think to
himself. 'To be able to rest...'

Davis balled his hands into a fist. 'Yes,' he told himself. 'I am done. I have done what I
have set out to do- to protect my friends and the Other World as best as I could. I am
done.'

Suddenly, he heard Frank's voice, "Hey, Davis!"

Davis suddenly looked up at the ceiling. "What is it?" he replied.

"Something urgent has come up," Frank answered. "Get everyone together so I can talk to
you."

Davis nodded and stepped towards the door.

Cindy was sleeping soundly in her bed, sheets thrown over her as if she was sleeping
comfortably in her own bed at home. Right beside her bed, Mokona sat atop the screen of the
electrocardiogram, where a steady pulse of beeps continued into the pre-dawn hours.

Cindy had been the one most injured during the fight, since Virus completely invaded her
body. It had been difficult to say whether she would fully recover, but Yuna, Amiko, and
any healer on hand that could be spared did all they could to return Cindy to normal, with
mixed results.

Cindy slept soundly into the night, until Mokona happened to roll off the machine and land
upon Cindy's bed, waking him up on a jarring note. "PuUu?!" he suddenly exclaimed sleepily
in his language again. (Subtitles once again across the bottom of the screen: "Ehh?!")

Cindy was suddenly awakened then, too. She grunted in pain, for her body had become stiff
and sore overnight. She could hardly move without something hurting.

She lay still upon her back, staring at the ceiling. She felt every part of her body shake,
and her vision was blurry. The only thing louder than the ringing in her ears was the
pounds of her heart.

Mokona looked upon Cindy's frozen body, seeing her wide eyes as she stared at the ceiling.
"Puupu?!" Mokona inquired. ("Cindy?")

Cindy sighed as she said, "Mokona... I feel terrible."

"PuPuu pu Pu?" Mokona replied. ("Are you hurt?")

"I feel like I can't move," Cindy muttered. "Virus flowed through all of my veins and
poisoned me... I only wonder if I will ever be the same again."

"Pu pup pu pUuU! Pu pUuU uu PPuu UuUP!" Mokona shouted back. ("Of course you will! You will
be just fine!")

"I don't know... I'm even unsure on how it will be when I return in this condition."

Mokona then yelled in English, "Don't say that! You know you'll be just fine when you
return! You'll be happy, right, if everything goes back to normal?! Isn't that what you
wanted all this time? Didn't you want everything to have been a dream?" Cindy said nothing
in reply.

There was a disturbing silence. "I did," she finally replied. "I had wanted all of this to
have not happened. I had wanted to return home without doing all of this. However, now it
is different." Cindy struggled to move, lifting a finger despite her pain. "I have changed
over this journey. No matter what pain comes my way, no matter what burdens my heart, I
will never try and forget it like I did back then." She lifted her arm and struggled to sit
up. "Because they are all precious memories. They are all important to me. They all make me
who I am. And I will never give them up."

Cindy finally sat up, the pain in her body as powerful as ever. She was sweating in her
bed, feeling the stinging pain all over her body. She looked over to Mokona, who was
smiling at her. She smiled back. She reached over to the table where her medicine lay, and
she took a gulp.

The pain abated, then, and she got to her feet and released the various wires and pads from
her skin, looking at the purple sky outside her window. She put on her black T-shirt and
stepped towards the door.

***

Amiko was wide awake at that time, lying upon her bed and staring at the dark ceiling above
her. She reflected over her journey. From the first battle with that Kurosawa Eiji to the
last fight with Virus. It all resonated clearly within her mind.

She stared at the ceiling tiles above her bed, seeing the intricate crossing lines and the
various dim lights. She sat up in her bed as the sky outside became a lighter shade of
violet.

She stared down at the sheets covering her, a shade of milky white. Her tattered jacket
hung from a coat hanger by her bed, and the ripped blue T-shirt that she still wore stood
out clearly as signs of her trials. She realized that the armor she had worn was gone. She
looked about the room, and the only thing left that she saw was tiny flecks of dust all
around her bed. It seemed to have shattered during the night. Had it been made better than
the weapons? Is that why it blocked her from Virus' attack numerous times with little more
than a scratch?

Whatever reason it was, all she knew was that she felt better than ever. With a smile on
her face, she slipped out of bed and took her jacket, heading for the door. It was going to
be a fine day. She knew it.

Amiko heard a chirp come from the table beside her bed. She turned and saw Tenpi waking up
from its sleep. When Tenpi noticed Amiko up, he gave a chirp and dashed to her, leaping
upon her shoulder and affectionately nibbling her ear. Amiko smiled.

She stepped into the hall, where not a soul save for herself moved. She heard doors shut
down the hall, and she turned to see Davis. "Davis?" she asked in the very dim hallway.
Davis looked towards her with his blue eyes, bright in the darkness.

"Hey, Amiko," he greeted. "Frank is calling for all of us. Could you wake everyone up?"
Amiko nodded as Davis stepped towards SSJ's door.

She went in the other direction, where there was Van's room. She knocked upon it. "Come
in," replied Van through the door. After a pause, she turned the knob and looked inside.
There was Van, sitting upon a stool as he stared out the window, bandages covering his many
wounds.

"Geez, you shouldn't move around," Amiko scolded.

Van didn't turn towards her as he replied, "Yeah, yeah, I know. The pain is nothing,
though."

"You say that now," Amiko replied. Van said nothing in reply. Amiko then told him, "Frank
is calling everyone. I needed to see if you were awake." Van didn't turn back even then, he
just nodded.

Amiko's face became a frown. "You're rather unanimated," she pointed out. "What's wrong
with you?"

Van turned towards her and answered, "Nothing at all. I was just thinking about how free
the clouds were." Amiko looked at Van as he turned to the cloudless sky. "Clouds... They're
something to admire. While they are free in their own right, the people look up to them and
say how beautiful they are. The same people who call for order, structure, and society
respect the freedom that the clouds have. I want to be like the clouds, able to come and go
as they wish without the people worrying. I want to be as free as the clouds. That is why I
don't like being chained down with limits or weaknesses. I have broken those chains."

Van was silent then as he looked to the clouds. Amiko gazed at him with wonder. That was
just his character, then. She smiled. "Well, I hope you'll be as you wish," she said. As
she was about to leave, she paused. "Oh, and remember, okay?" Van nodded. With that, Amiko
shut the door and continued down the hall.

She came upon Kensou's door. She knocked upon it, and paused. There was a still silence.
She called, "Kensou?" There was no reply. She turned down the hall, where Davis was peeking
his head through TM's room. Amiko opened the door and looked inside.

Kensou's room was empty. Her eyes widened in surprise. "Where could he have gone to?" she
wondered.

She shut the door and looked down the hall. Tenpi gave a chirp and motioned to the end of
the hall. Amiko turned and saw light coming from the stairway. She stepped towards the
light, knocking upon Kino's and the Hokuten's doors along the way. She made her way up the
steps and up onto the top floor, where the door to the roof was open. She stepped outside,
seeing the slowly lightening sky.

There was Kensou, leaning upon the fence on the edge of the roof. His eyes were shut and
his breathing was rhythmic and sort of soothing. Amiko looked at his serene face and
stepped up to him. Kensou opened his eyes and noticed Amiko sitting beside him.

"Morning," he greeted.

"Good morning, Kensou!" Amiko cheerfully greeted back. "You were meditating?" Kensou nodded.

Kensou exhaled a breath through his nostrils as he silently pondered a thought. Amiko
looked at him, wondering what he would say. "I was thinking about home," Kensou spoke.

"Oh!" Amiko replied. "You're going to return to your home or something?"

"The Capitol was my home," replied Kensou. He turned towards the gigantic tower in the
distance, standing in the center of the city. "That tower was where I had lived when I was
the son of the President. It has all ended, now, though, and I have no home."

"That's not true!" Amiko shouted back. "You can stay with Kino!"

"I don't feel at home with him," Kensou flatly replied. "I don't mind him as much, but he
did still kill my father. Whatever reasons of his or of my father's wrongdoing, he still
killed someone very close to me. I can not stay with him."

Amiko tapped her chin, thinking of another person. "How about the Hokuten?" she asked.

"They travel all the time, being a clan and all," Kensou answered. "I am done traveling. I
initially met you because I was running away, anyway. Now, I don't need to run or hide. I
just need to live."

Amiko was finding it more and more difficult to think of a place. "Hayden's?" she asked.

"I don't know him," returned Kensou. "Besides, I don't care to live in a girl's dormitory."

Amiko frowned. There was no where else she could think of. She turned to him, "I'm sure
it'll be okay. There's a home somewhere out there."

Kensou didn't reply. Amiko's eyes narrowed. The door to the steps opened once again, and
there was Davis, looking out onto the roof. "Ah, there you are," called Davis. Davis
stepped onto the roof, followed by everyone. SSJ, TM, Cindy, and Van stepped onto the roof,
followed by Kino and the Hokuten. Hayden and Momo followed close behind as well. With all
the people on the roof, Davis turned to the sky. "What is it, Frank?"

The wind shifted, then. Everyone looked at the sky and saw smoke gathering from the clear
air. The smoke gathered in one spot, and arms and legs appeared from the body. The smoke
soon disappeared into a clear body, covered from head to toe in clothes. The figure landed
upon the ground, face covered by the hood. "Hey," said Frank.

Everyone, save for the Crew, reeled at the sight of Rantmon. The Crew quickly calmed them
down as Frank explained, "Since Virus is dead, I have finally regained control of my
world." The Terrans looked at Frank, blinking as they saw him smile. Genuinely smile. They
sighed and let Frank continue, "So, good job, all of you! Because of your hard work, the
world is safe and the Gates are closed!" TM cheered in reply, as the rest of the Crew
smiled.

Frank's mouth then stiffened, flattening from a smile. "But, the time has come to return
home," he told them. Everyone looked upon him with surprise- save for the Crew, who had
already come to that conclusion. He continued, "How long do you guys need to say your
goodbyes?"

Everyone was silent. The Hokuten's faces became melancholy, and Kino was silent. Kensou
looked upon everyone. Amiko held onto Tenpi tightly, eyes narrow with sadness. Tenpi looked
up at her quizzically. Everyone just stared at the ground before SSJ held out his hand and
answered, "Three days. We'll finish everything in three days."

Frank nodded, and was gone in a wisp of smoke. Everyone was silent as the weight of the
situation was clear before them. SSJ turned to the other Terrans. He said, "Well, it has
been fun-"

Suddenly, he was dropkicked from behind from TM, Amiko, and Cindy. "THREE DAYS?!" screamed
Amiko. "THAT'S NOT ENOUGH TIME!"

"DON'T DECIDE THESE THINGS ON YOUR OWN!" TM shouted.

"YEAH! QUIT TRYING TO BE COOL!" Cindy added vehemently.

SSJ lay prone on the ground, muttering swears to himself. Momo stepped up to him and helped
him on his feet. He then explained to the rest, "Come on, any longer, and we won't be able
to bear going away. Let us do what we need to do in three days, or else we will lose this
determination to return."

Amiko, TM, and Cindy glared at SSJ anyway. Amiko just harshly uttered, "What are we going
to do in these three days, then?!"

"Well, how about returning our bishounen and bishoujo?" Everyone stared at SSJ. SSJ looked
back on his friends, dead serious. Amiko, TM, and Cindy looked at SSJ in utter surprise.

SSJ was flying in the air a minute later, reeling from a triple attack from Amiko's fan,
TM's fist, and Cindy's foot. "WHAT ARE YOU, CRAZY?!" they all screamed at him. SSJ just
sighed as he smacked hard into the roof of the hospital.

But as the smoke cleared with SSJ just staring at the sky, they all knew that he was right.
It had to have been done. In the commotion, they had failed to notice that the sky had
become a shade of blue. Off in the horizon, Momo caught sight of the sun just about to
rise. Everyone followed her gaze and watched the sky instantly brighten with the break of
dawn.
