CHAPTER 8: FIST FIGHTS

"And I don't hate you!" the words rung in his ears as he stormed towards the Gryffindor common room, there was something seriously wrong about this whole thing. She hadn't been angry, more like afraid. But why?

His mind spun with questions, as he came closer to the picture of the fat lady "Hickly Prickly," he growled the words so loudly, that the fat lady actually seemed slightly frightened. But that didn't bother him. He needed answers.

The common room was practically empty when he got inside, after all the session had been quiet late in the evening, so it was to be expected. The only person in the common room was Sirius.

Sirius looked up and smiled broadly at his friend "Hey Moony," he said cheerfully, pieces of clothes littered the floor, and drips of sweat hung from his hair and around his face. Remus decided instantly he didn't want to know what his friend had been doing. "How'd your session go?"

"Awful," replied Remus through gritted teeth, sitting down opposite the fire and staring at it, thinking about how to approach this subject without offending Sirius.

Sirius simply raised a long black eyebrow at him, his face placid before saying anything "What happened?" he asked, concern filled his voice, Remus decided he was either lying or was a damn good actor. Remus usually knew when someone was lying, it came off in there body scent, but somehow he could never tell if Sirius was lying or not, but it was probably because of the strong deodorant Sirius wore, it always messed up Remus's senses.

"Well it started like normal, the not talking to each other and if we did, it was only about the work," Remus growled deeply as the lesson ran through his mind "I looked up and caught her staring at me, so I ask what's wrong,"

Sirius was finding it hard to hide his grin, as Remus rambled on about how awful the last DADA session with Bella had gone. Though his smirked faded when he saw that his friend was very, very pissed off by what had happened.

"About mid-way through the shouting match, she said she didn't hate me and stormed out," Remus said bringing the story to a quick close.

"Sounds like you had fun Moony," Sirius said lightly, looking at his amber-eyed friend as he sighed in annoyance "Seriously, Moony she's not worth it, if she's going to keep lying to you. You should tell Bradson everything and say your not doing it anymore,"

Remus's eyes shot up and met Sirius's light blue ones "She wasn't lying to me," he said in her defence, making Sirius rise one of his ebony eyebrows a look of disbelief on his face.

"And you think I would lie to you Moony?" he asked his voice and body language appearing shocked.

"I don't think you would Padfoot," Remus respond, gazing into the fire a confused look on his pale face "But I know for a fact that she wasn't lying," pushing himself off from the chair. He sighed, "So it leads me to believe that neither of you are telling me the whole truth,"

Sirius stood up and was about to say something back, when Remus held his hand in the air and smiled weakly "And I doubt either of you will ever tell me," turning away from his friend "Goodnight Padfoot," and with that he disappeared up the stairs.

-----SLYTHERIN COMMON ROOM------

Bella stormed quickly back to the Slytherin common room, the only place where she could hide from Remus Lupin and all his little Gryffindor buddies. She entered the green room quickly, and walked across the room and was about to walk up the stairs to the girls' dorm, where know one, well except maybe the girls, could get to her.

However, before her foot even reached the first step, an arm shot put of nowhere and grabbed her wrist "Bella?" a smooth voice asked, turning her head slightly she saw Severus Snape looking at her, concern penetrated his deep eyes "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," she said quickly, looking away from his eyes and at the steps leading up too the girls' dorm. Unfortunately, Severus was very good at reading body language, and instantly knew she was lying.

"You've just come from a Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson with Lupin, right?" even though he phrased it as a question it was more of an observation. He walked forward slowly, running the hand that was on her wrist up her arm and let in rest on her shoulder, whilst he placed three long fingers on the side of her face and gently tilted her head so that he was looking directly into her eyes.

She nodded slowly; there was really no point in her lying to Severus.

"Did he hurt you?" he asked firmly, his grip on her shoulder increasing slightly.

She shook her head.

"What then?" he asked impatiently, his black eyes glinted dangerously, they always glinted like that when he was angry.

She sighed heavily, this would take a long time to explain, and it would also mean telling him about what happened with Sirius after the quidditch match "Ok, it's started right after the match between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor…" she told him everything quickly. His expression never changed through the whole time, he just looked mildly interested, though it was obvious that he wasn't happy because of the way his eye's glinted with annoyance.

She finished as quickly as she had started, and looked at him waiting for his response. But he simply stood up and told her to go to bed, and he'd talk to her in the morning. Bella was about to protest but he said that he would force her otherwise, so she went quietly her mind swimming with thoughts.

Severus watched her go, then turned and looked at the entrance to the common room, he had made up his mind. Tomorrow he would find Lupin and Black and make them both be very sorry for what they did too Bella. With that one thought in his mind, he turned around on his heels and marched up to the boys' dorms' and fell into a dreamless sleep.

----THE NEXT DAY----

Remus woke up later than he had intended, but after all it was Saturday so he supposed it didn't matter that much. Sitting up he blinked and looked over at his calendar. Three days till the full moon. He sighed at this and climbed out of bed and proceeded to get dressed.

He looked at his dorm mates, only Sirius's bed was empty. Peter, James and Mike (the other person they shared a dorm with) were still fast asleep. Peter was making squeaky noises, which made Remus think that he was dreaming about being a rat, he had started having these sort of dream frequently after he became an animagus. He never told anyone what his dreams were about, though it was clear that some of them disturbed him.

Shaking these thoughts from his head, Remus moved out of the dorm and down into the common room, expecting to see Sirius there, but he wasn't. Only Lily seemed to be there, dozing lightly in the large scarlet chair, her charms book open on her lap.

A small smile crept onto his thin lips as he passed her and out of the portrait of the fat lady, who once again started cussing him.

Moving down the main stairs he strolled into the great hall, where Sirius was sitting at the furthest end of the Gryffindor table, looking alone and rather guilty. He was about to move towards the black-haired boy, when a hand went on his shoulder and roughly pulled him back.

"Lupin," a cold voice hissed in his ear, making him shiver slightly.

Sirius had been deep in thought, he shouldn't have lied to Remus, he knew that was true and couldn't help but feel guilty about it, and was planning on about how to come clean and tell him the truth. However, this would mean that Remus would stop being mad at Bella, and be mad at him instead. That was something Sirius did not want, it was not a good or pleasant place too be, on the end of a werewolves temper.

As if his thoughts were being projected round the hall, he heard someone growl. Looking up, his light blue eyes landed on Remus Lupin, looking like a wolf with his ears pressed back against it's head, and Severus Snape, looking like some giant monster bat.

Shaking his head slowly, Sirius stood up, and couldn't help but think that Sniveillus really did have the profile of a Vampire, tall, pale sunken skin, and the fact that he always wore black, even now when he had no reason to wear black, he still did.

"What do you want Snivellus?" asked Sirius harshly as he approached the pair, one of his hands went of Remus's free shoulder, and he glared at the Slytherin over Remus's shoulder.

"Too talk to you and Lupin," growled Severus, pushing Remus forcefully "about your treatment of other people,"

Sirius blinked in confusion, but Remus seemed to catch on instantly "If this has anything to do with Bella, then stay out of it Severus," he warned darkly "It's got nothing to do with you,"

"It has everything to do with me Lupin," Severus spat out his last name in disgust "A filthy half-breed like you shouldn't be near other people, let alone at a school,"

Remus had grown used to Severus's insults by now, and never reacted to them anymore, but Sirius did "The only filthy thing around here is you," she retorted angrily, moving around Remus and gripping Severus by the front of his robes "Don't you know where the bathrooms are?"

"Get off me Black!" he hissed, sounded similar to that of a rattlesnake about to defend itself from a particularly tricky opponent.

"Make me," Sirius growled back, his blue eyes blazing like fire. Remus took a step back, sensing that a fight was about to break out at any moment. Sirius's taunting always lead to fist fights between him and Severus, though now the fight had started over Remus.

Severus took up Sirius's proposal and gripped the front of the other boy's robes and shoved him roughly away, causing Sirius to fall onto the Gryffindor table. Remus had to admit that Severus was stronger than he looked. Sirius though didn't think so, because instantly he stood up and dusted himself off, a cocky smile playing on his lips.

"That the best you can do Snillviues?" he asked, walking confidently forward, balling one of his fists and lazily swinging it round and hitting the lanky Slytherin square in the jaw. Snape fell back onto the floor with a loud thump.

Sitting up, he hissed with pain as she rubbed his hand along his jaw line, a bruise was appearing "I see you treat both sexes the same," he said silkily to Sirius, standing up straight and leering in on the other black-haired boy "I've come to the conclusion that you get a thrill out of pushing other people about," Severus's voice and posture were like ice.

"Only Slytherins'," Came Sirius's reply, as he dodged a punch thrown by Severus and delivered one of his own to the Slytherin's mid-section.

It looked as though Severus might have actually been choking on his words as they came out "T-that just p-proves h-how pathetic you are d-doesn't it B-Black," by the time he had finished saying this sentence, Severus had regained a small amount of oxygen, well enough to deliver a successful punch directly into Sirius's nose.

Blood tricked from Sirius's nose. Before Severus knew what happened, Sirius's launched himself onto the Slytherin and started to tighten his grip, strangling the taller boy. Remus watched his eyes wide, as Severus gulped for air, and his arms flailed around in the air trying to knock off his assailant.

A few seconds past, and Remus was shocked to the spot, he had to do something. Forcing his legs to move he walked forward and attempted to pull Sirius off of Severus.

Just as Severus's pale face started to turn and very unruly shade of magenta, Mark Leman, a seventh year Ravenclaw walked in on the scene. He was a tall boy with black hair and black eyes, and in many ways was very similar to Severus, expect his hair was more like Sirius's than Severus's.

"What the hell is going on?" he asked calmly, his intense eyes first looking at Remus, who was battling to get Sirius to stop strangling Severus, then to Sirius's, who was paying absolutely no attention what-so-ever to the intruder. Finally on Severus Snape, who successfully punched Sirius in the jaw, knocking him off and sitting up.

"H-he t-tried to k-kill me," gasped Severus, one of his bony hands clutched round the light red mark on his neck. Mark walked over and lifted Severus to his feet, and Remus did the same to Sirius.

"You started it Snivellus," spat Sirius in response, holding his hand over the spot on his jaw were Severus had hit him.

"That's no reason to kill him," said Mark matter-of-factly, then turned to Remus "And why didn't you try to stop it Remus?"

Remus flushed guilty, why hadn't he tried to stop it? He could of, after all he was strong then both Severus and Sirius combined, one of the few perks of being a werewolf. He opened his mouth to answer, then closed it again, what could he say?

Mark's eyes narrowed slightly on the tawny hair boy, but he didn't comment.

"You should both go to the hospital wing," said Remus, looking from Sirius's to Severus, then to Mark who nodded in agreement, he gripped Severus by the shoulder and steadied him. Then looked back at Remus and said.

"Keep them apart," a simple command, that Remus was glad to follow, however Sirius was not.

"What is Snivellus afraid he'll lose to me?" he taunted, taking deep breaths between his words as he spoke. Whether he would admit it or not, a continuation of the fight would probably land them beds in the hospital wing for two weeks.

Severus turned around so quickly that it made his head spin and growled at Sirius "Don't bet on it Black," he was about to walk forward, when Mark's arm shot out and gripped his other shoulder tightly.

"No Severus, Hospital wing," two commands. It was becoming very clear to Remus that Mark was not a man of many words, and when he did speak a sentence it was straight to the point.

Severus was clearly beaten by his companion's words, and turned around his head still spinning and walked out, Mark in front, leading him and Remus with Sirius on his heels.

Walking slowly to the hospital wing, Remus wondered what it was that Bella had told Severus, and decided that as soon as Severus and Sirius's where sorted out, that he would find her and ask her straight what she had said, and what the hell was going on anyway.

With that thought in mind, he marched with Sirius, Severus and Mark through the doors of the hospital wing to face the wrath of Madame Pomfery.
