InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ High School Diary ❯ Glimpses into the Past ( Chapter 8 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Later after they found Ayame they all piled into the car, did introductions, and drove to a local hang out spot that Miroku suggested. Not really knowing the town too well he decided to take his advice and go there. After parking, and Sango yelled at Kohaku for bringing in his camera equipment. They all got out of the car, Inuyasha stared up at the building and his mouth dropped, the place was incredible.
“ Welcome to The Paradise! It’s a restaurant, a video arcade, a skating rink, and it has go-carts out back, as well as a mini golf course, laser tag, a dance floor, and during the summer they open up the water slides. It has everything for everyone! Friday nights are for people 14 to 18.”
“ You got to be shitting me?”
“ Nope.” Miroku said with a grin.
“ Let’s go eat first! I’m fucking hungry!” Sango said walking ahead of Inuyasha and Miroku.
“ Hey! Wait for me!” Ayame yelled running after her.
Inuyasha shrugged then began to follow Sango and Ayame into the building as Kohaku and his crew trailed behind. As they were walking a respectable distant away from Ayame and Sango, Miroku took the opportunity to ask Inuyasha something that he’d wondered about for sometime, after he first set eyes on Sango.
“ Hey umm Inuyasha?”
“ Yes?” He responded not really looking at him.
“ What the deal with you and Sango?” He asked dropping his voice to a whisper.
“ Meaning what?” he asked him not really surprised at all by his question.
“ I mean, are you both,” He started “ You know? Together?”
Suddenly, Inuyasha had to hold back a laugh making the noise that came out sound like a cross between a cough and a gag. It wasn’t the question that made him laugh it was who it was coming from. One look at Miroku and Inuyasha knew he had no chance with her, Sango was far from a pushover, and definitely wasn’t charmed easily. Not to mention that preppy pretty boys weren’t exactly Sango’s type. A dirty hobo would have a better chance. Miroku gave him a look as he cleared his throat and answered his question.
“No.” He stated simply
“ Then what exactly is the relationship with you both? I see you guys together all the time and you are like practically attached at the hip.”
“ So, we’re close,” he started as they neared the building “ Big fucking deal.”
Miroku stopped talking after that not just because of what he said, because of how he said it. There wasn’t any hostility in his voice. There was nothing, he spoke in this strange monotone that made a chill go down Miroku’s spine.
“ Just what is this guy’s deal anyway?” He asked himself as Inuyasha began to pick up his pace.
“ Come on!” Sango yelled from the door “ Damn, any slower and you both would be walking backwards.”
“ Oh very funny Pinky, I haven’t heard that one since Middle school!” Inuyasha yelled back at her.
“ Just shut the fuck up and move your ass!” She yelled back smiling.
Inuyasha smiled as he walked up to the door with a very confused Miroku close behind. Once they all entered the restaurant part of the building Sango went back to the door to yell at her brother.
“ I told you to keep all that equipment inside the car,” she yelled “ We’ll meet you inside!”
Just as Sango let the glass door close, Souten turned to Kohaku feeling a little guilty about what just went down.
“ Are you sure that was a good idea taping Miroku and Inu’s convo?” she started “ I mean if they find out, or your sister. I mean, I feel bad for him. I haven’t known your sister very long at all and just by seeing her personality through all the footage we got. I can even tell the poor boy doesn’t stand a chance.”
“ That’s what makes good movies,” he began “ Unrequited love, or unexpected love.”
Kanna raised her eyebrows at Kohaku and gave him a look signifying that she thought he was insane.
“It’s a documentary not a movie and you don’t really think that your sister and him are going to fall in love do you? I doubt if she’d let him take her out on a date.”
“ No, not really,” Kohaku said as he neared the entrance “ But in my experience, the most unexpected things come at the strangest of times.”
“ If you say so.” Kanna and Souten said in unison as they pushed open the door and walked inside.
Once inside Sango waved down Kohaku and sat back down in her chair. Kohaku came over and sat next to Ayame as Souten sat across from him, and Kanna sat down next to her.
“ Why the hell did you have to bring that shit anyway?” Sango asked her brother as they say down.
“ I need to be ready at given moment.”
“ We’re not even in school.” She said fiddling with her fork.
“ So?” he began “ It’s high school students, in and out of the school atmosphere, I’m trying to capture the true essence of being a teenager in and out of school.”
“ Whatever.” She said rolling her eyes.
“ You sound so serious Kohaku,” Ayame started “ Maybe film making is you true calling.”
“ You think?” He asked sounding hopeful.
“ Totally.”
Kohaku smiled at Ayame as she smiled back then turned to look at Sango who had a rather strange expression on her face.
“ What’s wrong?” She asked her.
“ Nothing.” Sango responded as she smirked.
Miroku sat back and watched as Kohaku, Souten, and Kanna began to talk about improvements they could do to the film while Sango and Inuyasha began to ask Ayame questions about New York which was a huge surprise to Miroku not knowing that Ayame had ever been to the states, let alone lived there. As he sat and watched them, he realized didn’t know much about any of these people and for a moment he forgot why he was here. Until he heard Sango yell something strange as Inuyasha and Ayame howled with laughter. Miroku at first actually came from a pretty poor family when he was very young. He became a part of the rich and famous when his father died and his mother re-married. Even as a child he was never too fond of his stepfather, he was never home, and treated him like an annoyance rather than a stepson. You’d think Miroku would love him like a father since his real father died when he was only four years old and he couldn't even recall what he looked like. But he didn’t think he ever felt any connection to his stepfather because there was nothing fatherly about him. his was always cold, always serious, and boring. Miroku doubted if he even had a personality at all or ever had one for that matter. He often doubted if his mother even loved him because his mother always looked so miserable, he would often wake up in the middle of the night to find her sitting on the stairwell crying. Often he’d hear yelling in the middle of night to, and after his sister was born and he’d hear the yelling he’d go to her room and read to her, but when she got older she came into his room and together they’d try to drown out the noise. Miroku knew his mother would never leave him for the simple fact that she was didn’t work and needed his money. When he finally realized this he began to have a secret dislike of people of wealth yet at the same time he was more than happy to make friends with them. Blending into nothing, drowning in his school’s superficial wasteland until he thought he’d never find a way out. Until he saw Sango, she wasn’t like any other girl he’d had ever met, she was rude, harsh, extremely intimidating, completely unconventional, and different. But not different in a bad way, different in the fact that she was real and wasn’t afraid to be who she knew she was. He could tell that about her from the first time he saw her across from the park benches. Ever since then he wondered more and more about her, especially after she went and tried out and made the football team. It was his curiosity that attracted him to her, only he didn’t quite understand it at the time because normally it was any attractive female with a nice ass and him happening to be within reaching distance but he was smart enough to know that if he tried that with Sango he would probably lose his arm. Miroku snapped out of his daze just as the waitress came over to give them menus, just when he took his menu from the girl he notice the girl freeze as soon as she looked at Inuyasha.
“ Inuyasha?” The girl asked not quite sure who she was speaking to.
Inuyasha turned around and no one could tell if Inuyasha was shocked, angry, or scared for his face gave a look that no one could possibly describe, Which made Miroku, Ayame, Souten, and Kanna wonder who with overwhelming curiosity about who the girl was.
“ Inuyasha, that is you right?”
“ Yeah.” He said softly.
“ Oh, How are you? I mean you are okay and everything?”
“ I’m fine.”
“ Well, that’s good,” she said suddenly feeling uncomfortable “ You are Sango and Kohaku am I right?”
The girl looked up at Sango and Kohaku as they both exchanged quick glances, she knew the situation couldn’t possibly get more awkward. She knew who the girl was even though she had never officially been introduced to her. She remembered that one time Inuyasha had to go see his brother and he told them about some girl who was staying with him. She remembered when visiting Inuyasha she’d call him sometimes to see how he was for reasons Sango never even understood. Sango only recalled seeing her once, when they ran into her that time when Inuyasha went to go speak with his late father’s “advisor.” Inuyasha would never admit it, but although he had nothing against the girl he didn’t like speaking with her so after a while she caught on and stopped calling. Sango thought the real reason she did it was because she felt bad for Inuyasha, but Sango didn’t give it too much thought because after all she really didn’t do anything wrong except get adopted by Sesshomaru. She was a very quiet, caring girl with a childlike face and personality. She had soft almond shaped light brown eyes and messy black hair that went slightly past her shoulders. She had a slightly pale complexion and a way about her that made it impossible for you to hate her. It was weird seeing her here especially working as a waitress and as she glanced up at Inuyasha she knew he was thinking the same thing.
“ Yeah, we are.” Sango said suddenly making the girl relax a little.
“ How are the both of you?”
“ Good.”
“ That’s good,” she said softly then began fiddling with notepad “ So have you all decided what to order?”
“ Rin, may I ask you a question?” Sango asked politely
“ Of course.” she said a little startled.
“ Why are you working here? I thought Sesshomaru was wealthy enough so you didn’t have to work. Something happen?”
Sango decided to get right to the point, she knew Inuyasha and Kohaku were wondering the same thing so she might as well just be out with it since Inuyasha really just wanted her to go away as well as Kohaku who even though he didn’t even know her, didn’t like her because he felt is was pretty spiteful of Sesshomaru to not take in his brother yet he would take in some random girl off the street. Sango was pretty sure that Inuyasha felt the same way but unlike Kohaku he would never admit it. He always liked to put up this front like he didn’t really give a shit that his own brother didn’t take him in, but Sango knew that it hurt him, if only she could get him to talk to her about it then maybe it would be a little less painful.
“ Well,” she said clearing her throat “ We’ve run into some slight difficulties, it’s not horrible but he said I should get a job just to be on the safe side.”
“ Oh?”
“ Yeah,” she started “ Well, it’s good to see you all are doing well.”
Another awkward silence passed over the table, but this one only lasted about ten seconds because Miroku just couldn’t take the tension anymore.
“ I think I’m ready to order now.” Miroku said looking up at her.
“ Oh yes, of course,” She said suddenly sounding flustered.
Rin went one by one taking everyone’s orders at the table, once she was done she quickly collected the menus and retreated back to the kitchen. Once she was clearly out of ear shot Ayame thought she would just come out with it.
“ Who was that?”
“ No one.” Sango and Inuyasha said at the same time.
“ Really? There sure was a lot of tension for her to be no one, and who is Sesshomaru?”
“ He’s also no one,” Sango said before Inuyasha could “ We would rather not talk about it.”
“ Oh, sorry.” Ayame said feeling kind of guilty for pushing like she did.
“ Don’t worry about it,” she said clearing her throat “ So, Kohaku how is that film project coming anyway?”
When Kohaku began explaining how his documentary was coming it had the desired effect that she was hoping for. The tension slowly eased away and everyone managed to jump in turing it into a conversation about everyone’s favorites movies. Just as Sango was about to explain to Ayame why action/adventure films were way better than romantic comedies, Rin came over with a tray full of their drinks then quickly ran back to the kitchen and came back a second later with their food. After she placed the food on the table, she handed Sango an extra napkin even though she didn’t ask for one. Rin gave Sango a look, glancing down at the napkin and back to her again. Suddenly, getting what she was doing she nodded in understanding and Rin disappeared once more into the kitchen. As everyone else began digging into their food Sango unfolded the napkin and noticed their was something written on it. As she began to read she wondered what exactly was going on.
If you want to know what really happened, meet me in the ladies room in 10 minutes.Don’t tell Inuyasha and come alone.
She re-read the paper then crumpled it up and put it in her pocket, as she began to eat her food she kept wondering what exactly would Rin have to tell her, and how serious it actually was. Once ten minutes past, she excused herself from the table, asked another waitress where the bathroom was, and made her way to the ladies room.
“ Well, this aught to be interesting..” She thought as she pushed opened the restroom door.
