“Rin?” Sango whispered as she walked into the restroom “ Hello? Rin!”
“ Shhh!” Said Rin walking out of one of the stalls and placing a hand over her mouth.
Rin then removed her hand and walked over to the door and looked out to make sure no one was coming in. Once she felt certain that everything was clear she turned to Sango who had the same expression on her face as the first time she saw her.
“ Care to tell me what this is all about?” Sango asked clearly annoyed with the situation.
“ Sorry,” she said quietly “ I know I don’t know you very well or at all for that matter but I had to make sure Inuyasha knew and I couldn’t very well meet him in the girls bathroom -”
“ Just tell me, what you came to tell me.” Sango said cutting her off.
“ Oh, right,” she began “ I want to tell you what really happened with Sesshomaru.”
“ Okay,” she said suddenly becoming very interested “ Go on.”
“ It turns out that something happened, something in Inuyasha’s father’s will.”
“ Like what?”
“ I’m not sure exactly but she had all of Sesshomaru’s accounts frozen.”
“ Who did?”
“ Jaylynn, you know the advisor.”
“ What exactly is the advisor anyway?” Sango asked.
“ She’s the Taisho family lawyer, accountant and so on. She has control of everything, she handles basically everything.”
“ How long has she been with the family?”
“ Not long, she’s actually the daughter of the family’s original advisor. She took over after her mother died since that was originally the plan.”
Sango raised her eyebrows as she leaned against the sink contemplating what Rin was saying, she’d just learned more about Inuyasha’s brother than he even knew, this was indeed going to be interesting.
“ Alright,” she said calmly “ So, what exactly does all this have to do with the will?”
“ I’m not sure exactly,” she said biting on her bottom lip “ But apparently it had something to do with Inuyasha, and if he doesn’t follow through on it he won’t have access to any of his accounts for at least a year.”
“ Why a year?”
“ I don’t really know.”
“ So you’re broke?”“ No exactly,” she began “ He still has a job, so all he really has to do is make new accounts and put his money into those. His job pays a lot so we should be fine, but considering where we live and how much it costs to live there he might have not enough to pay off all the expenses living from pay check to pay check. So, he said I should get a job until he figures all the stuff out.”
“ I see.” She said suddenly going silent.
“ Hey, ummm.. What are you guys doing up this way anyway?”
Suddenly, Sango looked up at her not expecting that question, she was still trying to figure out how exactly was she going to tell Inuyasha about all of the information she just gathered.
“ We live up here now.” She stated in an annoyed tone.
“ Really?” She asked surprised “ Oh, dear...”
“ Why? What’s wrong?” She asked her becoming slightly worried.
“ I’m working here because it’s close to where we live.”
“ Wait.” she said not believing what she was hearing “ You mean you live around here too!?!”
As Rin nodded, Sango could feel her chest tighten, she knew this wasn’t good.
“ Since when?” She demanded.
“ Since last year.”
“ How come I don’t see you at school?”
“ I don’t know,” she said suddenly becoming very nervous “ What year are you?”
“ I’m a Senior,” she began “ What about you?”
“ Junior,” she said thinking a little harder “ Do you go to the private school?”
“ No, we had to beg or foster mom to let us go to the public school.”
“ You both have the same foster parents now?” she said smiling suddenly “ That’s great!”
“ Yeah, it is.” She said softly smilingA sudden silence passed over the two of them before Sango snapped back to her senses.
“ No No! Not great that Sesshomaru lives up here! They could run into each other!”“ I know, I know,” Rin said trying to calm her down “ I think it’s horrible that he didn’t take in his own brother and I feel horrible about that but-”
“ But what?” Sango said eyeing her suspiciously.
“ Look, I don’t know much more ,” she said pulling out her order pad and a pen and writing something down “ But here’s the address and phone number to Jaylynn’s new office, since Inuyasha is in the family she’ll most likely tell him what’s going on.”
After Rin finished writing down the address and phone number she ripped it off the pad and handed the paper to Sango.She took the paper glanced at the address then put it in her pocket.
“ Rin?” she said suddenly sounding serious.
“ Yes?”
“ Should I be worried?”
“ No, it’s nothing that serious, but Sesshomaru will go to extremes to get what he wants,” she began “ If he can’t acquire it one way, he’ll try another and he’ll keep going until he’s satisfied. Now, Inuyasha isn’t in any danger at least not physically. That much I'm sure of.”
“ Alright then,” She said softly“ I’ll make sure Sesshomaru doesn’t find out about this if he hasn’t already. I don’t know. I’m sorry.” She said becoming panicked.
“ Don’t worry about it,” she said “ Let’s go.”
“ Wait,” she said pulling out her order pad once more “ Here’s my private number, my cell number, and my address. Call me if you need to. Okay?”
Rin ripped the paper off the order pad and handed it to Sango. She took the paper, looked at it then stared back up at Rin.
“ Don’t worry,” she said looking straight at her “ It’s not as bad as it seems, when you find out exactly what’s going on please let me know.”
“ Okay.” she said quietly placing a hand on her shoulder as she walked past her placing a hand on the door “ And Rin?”
“ Yes?”
“ Thanks.”
Sango smiled at her as she pushed open the restroom and made her way back to the table trying to figure out what exactly just happened. Rin stayed in the ladies room a few more minutes mulling over her thoughts.
“ I did the right thing? Didn’t I?” She thought as she leaned against sink with her head in her hands.
Sesshomaru took her in, saved her from a life on the streets and now it felt like she was betraying him. But at the same time she felt the way he treated his own brother was simply horrible and he was going to use him in some ploy to get his money back. She was grateful to Sesshomaru and she knew the beneath his cold surface he really was a good man. He did take her in after all for reasons she never understood, all she had to do was figure out how to make him see that good person she knew Inuyasha was as well. Rin looked up to the ceiling and hoped whatever he was up to didn’t scar Inuyasha anymore than he already was. She sighed really loudly then suddenly realized she had to get back to work and as she rushed out the bathroom door she really hoped everything would work out for the best, she really didn’t want to have to get directly involved in the whole mess.
~~~***~***~~***~~~
By the time Sango got back to the table she noticed everyone was laughing and getting along. If she didn’t know any better she could have sworn that Miroku and Inuyasha knew each a long time the way they were carrying on which made her think.
“ What the hell happened while I was gone?”
“ Hey Sango!” squealed Ayame as she took her seat “ Where have you been?”
“ Bathroom.”
“ You certainly were in there a long time.” Kohaku said snickering trying to embarrass her.
“ Yeah, I guess.” She said taking sip of her drink.
“ Hey, are you okay?” Inuyasha asked her his voice filled with concern.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” she said forcing a smile.
“ Well, I don’t know about you guys but I’m ready to try out the go-carts!” Miroku said excitedly.
“ We’re game.” said Kohaku and his crew.
“ Oh, Sango’s not finished with her food.” Ayame said
“ It’s Okay,” she started “ I’ve eaten enough.”
Sango pushed away her plate as Ayame looked at her with concern. Inuyasha looked over at Sango as well knowing there was something wrong with her and she just wouldn’t tell him. Miroku waved down the waitress and as Rin came over to the table and handed him the check she exchanged a quick glance with Sango and left to attend to the next table.
“ I got this guys.” Miroku said taking out his wallet for the check.
“ Nah, man you don’t have to.” Inuyasha said as Ayame piped up in agreement.
“ No, it’s cool,” he began as he got up to pay the check “ You all will just owe me next time.”
After he paid the check they all got up from the table ready to go out to the go-cart track, but as they were on their way out they just happened to run into Kagome, Koga, Hojo, and their cheer friends. Kohaku already seeing this as a documentary worthy opportunity he instantly clicked on his camera while Souten and Kanna took their positions.
“ Well Well, if it isn’t the freak squad.” laughed Eri.
“ Hey come on Eri,” Kagome said clearly tired of all the bullshit “ Just leave them alone.”
“ Yeah, we shouldn’t interrupted Ayame and Sango’s date.” Ayumi said laughing.
“ Fuck you!” Ayame growled at her.
“ Ew, no thanks!”
“ God, Miroku I can’t believe you hang out with dykes and juvenile delinquents,” Yuka said with a laugh “ Wanted to see how the other half lives?”
“ Can you just move so we can get through the door?” Miroku asked clearly pissed off.
Sango and Inuyasha were so over the cheerleaders and their crap that they decided to wait until they were done. The whole thing was so freaking ridiculous, that they weren’t even worth the effort.
“ Sure,” Hojo piped up “ Come on guys, are they really worth all the fuss?”
“ I suppose you’re right why would should we waste our time with trash anyway.”
“ Wow, you are the most shallow piece of shit I have ever met.” Ayame said suddenly.
“ Excuse me?” Eri said getting up in her face.
“ You heard me,” she practically growled “ Now, move.”
“ You better do it,” Koga said seriously “ She just might bite your hand off.”
They moved out of the way glaring daggers at her as Ayame marched through the door followed by Miroku, then Inuyasha, then Sango who flicked them off as she left. Just as Koahaku and his crew started to leave they poked the camera in there faces making sure they all knew that they got it all on tape.
“ That little brat!” Eri said stomping her foot “ He’s such a loser just like his sister.”
“ I know, and who does he think he is filming us like that.” Ayumi chimed in.
“ Get over it.” Kagome said as she walked over to an empty table.
“ What? Kagome?” Yuka asked “ What the hell has gotten into you?”
“ Nothing, you all are just so freaking annoying!” She yelled at them.
Kagome didn’t know what just came over her, she’d had a tiring weak and all she wanted was to have a nice outing out with her friends but yet again Yuka, Eri, and Ayumi had to start it up again with all their drama and she was beyond sick of it.
“ Kagome?” Hojo asked as he touched her shoulder “ Are you alright?”
“ Don’t touch me!” she yelled pulling away from him “ You three are always starting some unnecessary drama, not to mention you are rude for no reason, and you all talk too damn much! I can’t even relax for one minute! You know what I’m out of here!” She said spinning around and walking out the door.
“ Kagome! Wait!” Hojo yelled after her feeling hurt by what just happened.
She heard Hojo call her, but she just kept walking, on an adrenaline rush from what she just did. She didn’t even know what came over her, she just suddenly couldn’t take it anymore. She had a very stressful week, doing extra volunteer work as well as taking on extra assignments, not to mention cheer practice, and the one night she thought she just could relax and have fun they just had to start it up and again. She didn’t know why she reacted like that, they’ve always been like that.
“ So why is it now that I get all worked up over it?” She asked herself suddenly realizing that she was out by the go-cart track.
She watched as the go carts zoomed by, the wind whipping her hair around face. Then suddenly she noticed someone standing off to side watching by the fences. She carefully made her way around until she saw who is was.
“ Inuyasha?”
Inuyasha looked up, at her then back out to the race track. “Damn.” he thought suddenly becoming very interested in the race. He really didn’t get that girl Kagome, nor did he want to. Every time he looked at her he saw Kikyo and he really didn’t need that now. But despite himself he would try to be a little nice, she wasn’t Kikyo after all and maybe if he kept telling himself that it wouldn’t seem so bad.
“ What are you doing out here?”
“ I’m not sure actually,” she said walking over to stand next to him “Sorry, about my friends they are horrible girls.”
“ Then why do you hang out with them?” he asked not taking his eyes off the race track.
“ I don’t know.” she said sighing.
“That’s stupid.”
“ What?” She asked suddenly surprised.
“ What’s the point of being friends with someone when you don’t even know why,” he said looking at the go-chart Sango was driving “ It seems stupid to me.”
“ Maybe your right.” She said leaning against the fence.
In her heart she knew Inuyasha was right, she didn’t like those girls nor did she like cheerleading too much. She always wondered what it would be like if she had the guts to do the things she really wanted then maybe life wouldn’t seem so hard. She glanced at Inuyasha, the boy she hadn’t really spoken to since the first day of school. There was something about him that kept drawing her to him, like some strange force. She couldn’t understand it then, but all she knew was that she wanted to be near him, talk to him, know him. And it wasn’t just because she was bored and needed a change this time it was different she was genuinely interested. Just as she was about to speak again the go-carts stopped as Sango leaped out of her seat.
“ I crushed all of you!” she yelled as she began to cackle.
“ Wow, please don’t do that.” Ayame said getting out of her car “ Scary.”
“ You got lucky sis!” Koahku yelled as Souten and Kanna got out of their cars.
“ Rematch!” Souten squealed as soon as she got out.
“ Sango, good at football and racing.” Miroku said walking up next to her. “ Is there anything you can’t do?”
“ Hmmm...” Sango thought a second. “ No, not really.”
Sango and Miroku laughed just as she glanced over at Inuyasha then suddenly her laughter stopped dead when she saw who was standing next to him.
“ Just what the hell is she doing here?” She thought through slitted eyes.
“ Hey Kagome! “ Ayame yelled seeing what Sango was looking at.
“ Hi.” she said back.
“ Didn’t expect to see you out here Princess. Problem with your other friends?” Sango asked in a mocking tone
“ You could say that.” She said not really paying attention to Sango at the moment.
“ They are rather unbearable at times.” Miroku said walking over to the fence where she stood.
“ At times?” Kagome said with a snort “ Try everyday.”
“ Then why do you hang out with them?”
“ I don’t know,” she started “ Why do you hang out with them?”
“ You know I don’t really know either.” Miroku said to her with a smile.
“ Hey, why don’t you hang out with us?” Ayame squealed “ Miroku’s pretty much one of the gang now.”
Kagome raised her eyebrows not really believing after only one night of hanging out with Inuyasha and his friends that he was “ one of the gang.” Kagome could figure out how Ayame came to be friends with them, she was different than everyone else and they seemed to accept her. But Miroku would be a bit of a stretch for them, not that she knew them that well to determine that. She sighed hard as realized despite what she liked to tell herself she really was shallow. She knew why she hung out with her so-called friends, they were popular like her and it was expected of her. That was probably the reason she was still with Hojo. She knew he was a good guy, at least whenever he was around her he was.
“Gods, I’m such an idiot.” She thought as she shook her head.
“ I don’t think she’d be up to hang with people who are beneath her.” Sango said folding her arms over her chest.
“ Hey! Kagome’s not like that.” Ayame piped up defensively.
“ No,” she started as she gazed around then lifted her head to stare up at the sky “ She’s right, I come off as if I think I’m better than everyone else and for that I’m sorry.”
“ I wouldn’t worry about it,” Inuyasha said as Kagome turned her head to look him “ A lot of people around here do. Honestly, the first time I talked to Miroku I thought he was another airheaded pretty boy only looking to grab some ass.”
“ Gee thanks Inuyasha.” Miroku said sarcastically.
“ But he’s pretty cool actually.”
“ Yeah, by the time I got back to the table you all were carrying on as if you knew each for the longest time. What the hell happened?” Sango asked.
Miroku grinned as Inuyasha shook his head and let out a small laugh.
“ I’ll tell you later.”
“ No, I really am that way,” Kagome whispered “ I hang out with those people because that’s what’s expected of me not because I want to.”
“ Then stop doing what’s expected of you,” Inuyasha said simply staring up at the sky " Do what you want to do."
“ You make it sound so easy.”
“ Because it is.” he said finally making eye contact with her.
The minute their eyes met Kagome could feel what felt like a shock through her entire body. She could feel herself being draw to him again, only this time she really didn’t want to resist the urge.
“ Such beautiful brown eyes, in the moonlight they almost look golden.” She couldn't help but think.
When Inuyasha finally turned his gaze back up towards the sky, Kagome could feel her heartbeat faster completely freaked out by the effect he hand on her. Every time she saw him at school she always found herself thinking about him, but she always ignored it desperate to keep her thoughts in check. She just couldn’t be even slightly attracted to a boy like him. But he wasn’t the person she thought he was the first moment she saw him, so maybe she could like him. She quickly shoved those thoughts aside letting the sudden silence wash over her like rain.
“ There’s just no way..” She thought “ This has to be a side effect from stress.”
“ Anyone going to talk or are we enjoying the silence?” Sango asked clearly annoyed.
“ Hey, Sango?” Ayame asked looking around.
“ What?”
“ Where’s you brother?”
Sango looked around until he spotted her brother ducked behind a nearby bush with his camera equipment. She rolled her eyes, but smiled at the same time. Her brother was very crafty, he managed to take his equipment without even being noticed and Inuyasha was the one watching it.
“ He’s good.” she thought before she spoke “ Working on his career.”
Suddenly, everyone just began to laugh breaking the sudden tension in the air. Kagome couldn’t help but think how nice it was to just have fun and let go without worrying how to impress someone, she could just be herself and even though she never really liked Sango from the first day of school, she thought maybe she wasn’t so bad if you got on her good side.
“ It seems I can no longer keep up being a bitch today,” Sango said “ You up for a race Kags? Or are you afraid you’ll break a nail?”
“What?” She asked surprised by the sudden nickname.
“ Go-carts? Yes or no? Come on princess,” Sango said teasingly “ You maybe a priss, but I know your not stupid too?”
“ You haven’t seen anything yet.” She said with a grin as she walked around and entered to racing area.
“ Alright, let’s do it!” Ayame yelled as they got into their cars.
“ You all gonna ride too or what?” Inuyasha asked turning and directly staring at Kohaku and his friends.
“ No, it’s cool.” Kohaku answered getting up from his crouch position in the bushes.
“ Hit it guys!” Inuyasha said as they suddenly took off down the race track.
As Inuyasha stared at the cars speeding down the track he couldn’t help but let his thoughts wander to Kagome. He just couldn’t figure her out, he spent all week avoiding her and now she just walks up completely forgetting how rude he was to her that day at school. He found it even hard to look at her because her face resembled Kikyo. But when he finally looked her in the eye he didn’t see Kikyo’s face at all what he saw was someone different.
“ It’s because she’s not Kikyo.” said the voice in the back of his mind.
Inuyasha sighed as the cars came around for another lap, Ayame was in the lead and had the biggest smile on her face. Inuyasha liked Ayame, she was fun, nice, a little perky but she was genuine and in time he knew that she would become rather close with Sango, him, and Kohaku. She would be a good friend, and as for Miroku he wasn’t that bad either. He could picture Miroku and him being friends, he needed a guy to hang with and not because he only hung out with Sango all the time, he loved being around her but it would be cool to have a guy to hang with as well. And as for Kagome he didn’t really know, she was beautiful, but he always found himself wondering if that all she was, just a pretty face but after the chat they had he knew that wasn’t true and when he looked at her, he felt a strange sensation almost like a jolt. He quickly shook those thoughts from his head, he didn’t need another woman fucking up his life. If she wanted to be friends, he supposed that would be okay, he couldn’t avoid her forever and she really wasn’t as bad as he thought she was and apparently Sango saw that as well.
As the go-carts pulled back in Ayame jumped out, shouting at the top of her lungs instantly snapping Inuyasha out of his thoughts. Sango, Miroku, and Kagome, stepped out of their cars and laughed at the overly excited redhead.
“ YAY!! I WON!!”
“ I let you win.” Sango said nudging her.
“ Don’t be such a sore loser.” Miroku said giving Sango a little punch on the arm.
Sango smiled as Kagome turned to see Inuyasha looking at the three.
“ Why don’t you give it a try Inuyasha?” Kagome asked.
“ He’s not in he mood.” Sango piped up.
“ So?” he said “ Come on, let’s go do some other stuff.”
As they all began to walk around to the exit they noticed Kagome was just standing there.
“ Let’s go Princess!” Sango yelled “ Or we will leave you behind!”
Kagome ran after them thinking the night wouldn’t be so bad after all. Once Kohaku got all his gear in check they headed over to the mini golf course, then laser tag, then pretty much tried almost everything. But by the time they were ready to get home Kagome was laughing so hard that she didn’t want to stop.
“ That was fun,” she started as they walked to the parking lot “ I’ve been here a lot and have never had that much fun.”
“ Well, that sucks.” Kohaku said marching ahead.
“ I’m glad you had fun Kagome!” Ayame said as they reached the parking lot.
Sango had been trying the whole night not to dwell on what Rin had told her, but it just kept coming back. Even Rin didn’t really know how serious it was and that had her worried. She would tell Inuyasha about it tomorrow, she figured she didn't want to ruin his night. Once they reached the car, they all piled in Kagome being the last and just as she thanked Inuyasha for giving her a ride, she looked up and saw her friends staring right at her from across the parking lot, she looked right back at them then slide into the backseat of the car and shut the door and as Inuyasha drove off she found herself really not caring about the situation at all. For once in her life she had fun with people she actually liked spending time with, and she would be damned if they wanted to take that from her.
“ Shhh!” Said Rin walking out of one of the stalls and placing a hand over her mouth.
Rin then removed her hand and walked over to the door and looked out to make sure no one was coming in. Once she felt certain that everything was clear she turned to Sango who had the same expression on her face as the first time she saw her.
“ No, it’s cool,” he began as he got up to pay the check “ You all will just owe me next time.”
After he paid the check they all got up from the table ready to go out to the go-cart track, but as they were on their way out they just happened to run into Kagome, Koga, Hojo, and their cheer friends. Kohaku already seeing this as a documentary worthy opportunity he instantly clicked on his camera while Souten and Kanna took their positions.
“ Well Well, if it isn’t the freak squad.” laughed Eri.
“ Hey come on Eri,” Kagome said clearly tired of all the bullshit “ Just leave them alone.”
“ Yeah, we shouldn’t interrupted Ayame and Sango’s date.” Ayumi said laughing.
“ Fuck you!” Ayame growled at her.
“ Ew, no thanks!”
“ God, Miroku I can’t believe you hang out with dykes and juvenile delinquents,” Yuka said with a laugh “ Wanted to see how the other half lives?”
“ Can you just move so we can get through the door?” Miroku asked clearly pissed off.
Sango and Inuyasha were so over the cheerleaders and their crap that they decided to wait until they were done. The whole thing was so freaking ridiculous, that they weren’t even worth the effort.
“ Sure,” Hojo piped up “ Come on guys, are they really worth all the fuss?”
“ I suppose you’re right why would should we waste our time with trash anyway.”
“ Wow, you are the most shallow piece of shit I have ever met.” Ayame said suddenly.
“ Excuse me?” Eri said getting up in her face.
“ You heard me,” she practically growled “ Now, move.”
“ You better do it,” Koga said seriously “ She just might bite your hand off.”
They moved out of the way glaring daggers at her as Ayame marched through the door followed by Miroku, then Inuyasha, then Sango who flicked them off as she left. Just as Koahaku and his crew started to leave they poked the camera in there faces making sure they all knew that they got it all on tape.
“ That little brat!” Eri said stomping her foot “ He’s such a loser just like his sister.”
“ I know, and who does he think he is filming us like that.” Ayumi chimed in.
“ Get over it.” Kagome said as she walked over to an empty table.
“ What? Kagome?” Yuka asked “ What the hell has gotten into you?”
“ Nothing, you all are just so freaking annoying!” She yelled at them.
Kagome didn’t know what just came over her, she’d had a tiring weak and all she wanted was to have a nice outing out with her friends but yet again Yuka, Eri, and Ayumi had to start it up again with all their drama and she was beyond sick of it.
“ Kagome?” Hojo asked as he touched her shoulder “ Are you alright?”
“ Don’t touch me!” she yelled pulling away from him “ You three are always starting some unnecessary drama, not to mention you are rude for no reason, and you all talk too damn much! I can’t even relax for one minute! You know what I’m out of here!” She said spinning around and walking out the door.
“ Kagome! Wait!” Hojo yelled after her feeling hurt by what just happened.
She heard Hojo call her, but she just kept walking, on an adrenaline rush from what she just did. She didn’t even know what came over her, she just suddenly couldn’t take it anymore. She had a very stressful week, doing extra volunteer work as well as taking on extra assignments, not to mention cheer practice, and the one night she thought she just could relax and have fun they just had to start it up and again. She didn’t know why she reacted like that, they’ve always been like that.
“ So why is it now that I get all worked up over it?” She asked herself suddenly realizing that she was out by the go-cart track.
She watched as the go carts zoomed by, the wind whipping her hair around face. Then suddenly she noticed someone standing off to side watching by the fences. She carefully made her way around until she saw who is was.
“ Inuyasha?”
Inuyasha looked up, at her then back out to the race track. “Damn.” he thought suddenly becoming very interested in the race. He really didn’t get that girl Kagome, nor did he want to. Every time he looked at her he saw Kikyo and he really didn’t need that now. But despite himself he would try to be a little nice, she wasn’t Kikyo after all and maybe if he kept telling himself that it wouldn’t seem so bad.
“ What are you doing out here?”
“ I’m not sure actually,” she said walking over to stand next to him “Sorry, about my friends they are horrible girls.”
“ Then why do you hang out with them?” he asked not taking his eyes off the race track.
“ I don’t know.” she said sighing.
“That’s stupid.”
“ What?” She asked suddenly surprised.
“ What’s the point of being friends with someone when you don’t even know why,” he said looking at the go-chart Sango was driving “ It seems stupid to me.”
“ Maybe your right.” She said leaning against the fence.
In her heart she knew Inuyasha was right, she didn’t like those girls nor did she like cheerleading too much. She always wondered what it would be like if she had the guts to do the things she really wanted then maybe life wouldn’t seem so hard. She glanced at Inuyasha, the boy she hadn’t really spoken to since the first day of school. There was something about him that kept drawing her to him, like some strange force. She couldn’t understand it then, but all she knew was that she wanted to be near him, talk to him, know him. And it wasn’t just because she was bored and needed a change this time it was different she was genuinely interested. Just as she was about to speak again the go-carts stopped as Sango leaped out of her seat.
“ I crushed all of you!” she yelled as she began to cackle.
“ Wow, please don’t do that.” Ayame said getting out of her car “ Scary.”
“ You got lucky sis!” Koahku yelled as Souten and Kanna got out of their cars.
“ Rematch!” Souten squealed as soon as she got out.
“ Sango, good at football and racing.” Miroku said walking up next to her. “ Is there anything you can’t do?”
“ Hmmm...” Sango thought a second. “ No, not really.”
Sango and Miroku laughed just as she glanced over at Inuyasha then suddenly her laughter stopped dead when she saw who was standing next to him.
“ Just what the hell is she doing here?” She thought through slitted eyes.
“ Hey Kagome! “ Ayame yelled seeing what Sango was looking at.
“ Hi.” she said back.
“ Didn’t expect to see you out here Princess. Problem with your other friends?” Sango asked in a mocking tone
“ You could say that.” She said not really paying attention to Sango at the moment.
“ They are rather unbearable at times.” Miroku said walking over to the fence where she stood.
“ At times?” Kagome said with a snort “ Try everyday.”
“ Then why do you hang out with them?”
“ I don’t know,” she started “ Why do you hang out with them?”
“ You know I don’t really know either.” Miroku said to her with a smile.
“ Hey, why don’t you hang out with us?” Ayame squealed “ Miroku’s pretty much one of the gang now.”
Kagome raised her eyebrows not really believing after only one night of hanging out with Inuyasha and his friends that he was “ one of the gang.” Kagome could figure out how Ayame came to be friends with them, she was different than everyone else and they seemed to accept her. But Miroku would be a bit of a stretch for them, not that she knew them that well to determine that. She sighed hard as realized despite what she liked to tell herself she really was shallow. She knew why she hung out with her so-called friends, they were popular like her and it was expected of her. That was probably the reason she was still with Hojo. She knew he was a good guy, at least whenever he was around her he was.
“Gods, I’m such an idiot.” She thought as she shook her head.
“ I don’t think she’d be up to hang with people who are beneath her.” Sango said folding her arms over her chest.
“ Hey! Kagome’s not like that.” Ayame piped up defensively.
“ No,” she started as she gazed around then lifted her head to stare up at the sky “ She’s right, I come off as if I think I’m better than everyone else and for that I’m sorry.”
“ I wouldn’t worry about it,” Inuyasha said as Kagome turned her head to look him “ A lot of people around here do. Honestly, the first time I talked to Miroku I thought he was another airheaded pretty boy only looking to grab some ass.”
“ Gee thanks Inuyasha.” Miroku said sarcastically.
“ But he’s pretty cool actually.”
“ Yeah, by the time I got back to the table you all were carrying on as if you knew each for the longest time. What the hell happened?” Sango asked.
Miroku grinned as Inuyasha shook his head and let out a small laugh.
“ I’ll tell you later.”
“ No, I really am that way,” Kagome whispered “ I hang out with those people because that’s what’s expected of me not because I want to.”
“ Then stop doing what’s expected of you,” Inuyasha said simply staring up at the sky " Do what you want to do."
“ You make it sound so easy.”
“ Because it is.” he said finally making eye contact with her.
The minute their eyes met Kagome could feel what felt like a shock through her entire body. She could feel herself being draw to him again, only this time she really didn’t want to resist the urge.
“ Such beautiful brown eyes, in the moonlight they almost look golden.” She couldn't help but think.
When Inuyasha finally turned his gaze back up towards the sky, Kagome could feel her heartbeat faster completely freaked out by the effect he hand on her. Every time she saw him at school she always found herself thinking about him, but she always ignored it desperate to keep her thoughts in check. She just couldn’t be even slightly attracted to a boy like him. But he wasn’t the person she thought he was the first moment she saw him, so maybe she could like him. She quickly shoved those thoughts aside letting the sudden silence wash over her like rain.
“ There’s just no way..” She thought “ This has to be a side effect from stress.”
“ Anyone going to talk or are we enjoying the silence?” Sango asked clearly annoyed.
“ Hey, Sango?” Ayame asked looking around.
“ What?”
“ Where’s you brother?”
Sango looked around until he spotted her brother ducked behind a nearby bush with his camera equipment. She rolled her eyes, but smiled at the same time. Her brother was very crafty, he managed to take his equipment without even being noticed and Inuyasha was the one watching it.
“ He’s good.” she thought before she spoke “ Working on his career.”
Suddenly, everyone just began to laugh breaking the sudden tension in the air. Kagome couldn’t help but think how nice it was to just have fun and let go without worrying how to impress someone, she could just be herself and even though she never really liked Sango from the first day of school, she thought maybe she wasn’t so bad if you got on her good side.
“ It seems I can no longer keep up being a bitch today,” Sango said “ You up for a race Kags? Or are you afraid you’ll break a nail?”
“What?” She asked surprised by the sudden nickname.
“ Go-carts? Yes or no? Come on princess,” Sango said teasingly “ You maybe a priss, but I know your not stupid too?”
“ You haven’t seen anything yet.” She said with a grin as she walked around and entered to racing area.
“ Alright, let’s do it!” Ayame yelled as they got into their cars.
“ You all gonna ride too or what?” Inuyasha asked turning and directly staring at Kohaku and his friends.
“ No, it’s cool.” Kohaku answered getting up from his crouch position in the bushes.
“ Hit it guys!” Inuyasha said as they suddenly took off down the race track.
As Inuyasha stared at the cars speeding down the track he couldn’t help but let his thoughts wander to Kagome. He just couldn’t figure her out, he spent all week avoiding her and now she just walks up completely forgetting how rude he was to her that day at school. He found it even hard to look at her because her face resembled Kikyo. But when he finally looked her in the eye he didn’t see Kikyo’s face at all what he saw was someone different.
“ It’s because she’s not Kikyo.” said the voice in the back of his mind.
Inuyasha sighed as the cars came around for another lap, Ayame was in the lead and had the biggest smile on her face. Inuyasha liked Ayame, she was fun, nice, a little perky but she was genuine and in time he knew that she would become rather close with Sango, him, and Kohaku. She would be a good friend, and as for Miroku he wasn’t that bad either. He could picture Miroku and him being friends, he needed a guy to hang with and not because he only hung out with Sango all the time, he loved being around her but it would be cool to have a guy to hang with as well. And as for Kagome he didn’t really know, she was beautiful, but he always found himself wondering if that all she was, just a pretty face but after the chat they had he knew that wasn’t true and when he looked at her, he felt a strange sensation almost like a jolt. He quickly shook those thoughts from his head, he didn’t need another woman fucking up his life. If she wanted to be friends, he supposed that would be okay, he couldn’t avoid her forever and she really wasn’t as bad as he thought she was and apparently Sango saw that as well.
As the go-carts pulled back in Ayame jumped out, shouting at the top of her lungs instantly snapping Inuyasha out of his thoughts. Sango, Miroku, and Kagome, stepped out of their cars and laughed at the overly excited redhead.
“ YAY!! I WON!!”
“ I let you win.” Sango said nudging her.
“ Don’t be such a sore loser.” Miroku said giving Sango a little punch on the arm.
Sango smiled as Kagome turned to see Inuyasha looking at the three.
“ Why don’t you give it a try Inuyasha?” Kagome asked.
“ He’s not in he mood.” Sango piped up.
“ So?” he said “ Come on, let’s go do some other stuff.”
As they all began to walk around to the exit they noticed Kagome was just standing there.
“ Let’s go Princess!” Sango yelled “ Or we will leave you behind!”
Kagome ran after them thinking the night wouldn’t be so bad after all. Once Kohaku got all his gear in check they headed over to the mini golf course, then laser tag, then pretty much tried almost everything. But by the time they were ready to get home Kagome was laughing so hard that she didn’t want to stop.
“ That was fun,” she started as they walked to the parking lot “ I’ve been here a lot and have never had that much fun.”
“ Well, that sucks.” Kohaku said marching ahead.
“ I’m glad you had fun Kagome!” Ayame said as they reached the parking lot.
Sango had been trying the whole night not to dwell on what Rin had told her, but it just kept coming back. Even Rin didn’t really know how serious it was and that had her worried. She would tell Inuyasha about it tomorrow, she figured she didn't want to ruin his night. Once they reached the car, they all piled in Kagome being the last and just as she thanked Inuyasha for giving her a ride, she looked up and saw her friends staring right at her from across the parking lot, she looked right back at them then slide into the backseat of the car and shut the door and as Inuyasha drove off she found herself really not caring about the situation at all. For once in her life she had fun with people she actually liked spending time with, and she would be damned if they wanted to take that from her.
