A/N: Sorry for the delay! Enjoy!
“So, auditions after school around four o’clock.”
“Why four?” Inuyasha asked as Sango shut her locker.
“Because I promised Ayame that I’d go and watch her dance team and apparently she wants to try-out.”
“Whoa Whoa Whoa!” Inuyasha said stopping in the middle of the hall.
“What?”
“Just rewind for a minute there,” Inuyasha said with a laugh “You said you’d go watch the dance team practice?”
“Yeah, what of it?”
Sango began to march down the hall, hearing Inuyasha’s laughter right behind her. Inuyasha sped up until he was walking right next her still chuckling at what Sango had just said.
“Why?” Inuyasha asked “I mean, really why?”
“I don’t know,” she began “This week she’s been all ‘Oh, we barely spend any time together anymore. Come watch me practice!’ and I figured that she’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to having a girl for a best friend which is completely never with me because -”
“Most girls are backstabbing bitches who do nothing but gossip, talk shit about you behind your back and cause unnecessary drama. Yeah, I know Sango.”
“Anyway,” Sango said punching him in the arm “I figured I might as well go and she’s trying out for our band too so whatever.”
“Looks, like someone is going soft.”
Sango glared at him then took her English book she was carrying and hit him on the back of the head with it.
“Ow! What the hell Sango!?!” he said rubbing the back of his head.
“Look who’s talking?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean your little Kikyo look alike.”
“What about her?”
“You two have been awfully chummy this week for someone who at first wanted nothing to do with her.”
Inuyasha stopped by his classroom door watching the students pile in. It was only second period and already Sango was down his throat. He knew she meant well, but it was to the point where every time he saw Kagome when Sango was around she’d find some excuse to leave. Suddenly, Inuyasha rolled his eyes realizing why Kagome was doing that. At first he thought it was because it some strange way it was awkward for her but now he knew better.
“What about you?”
“What about me?”
“Care to explain why every time Kagome’s around when your around she finds an excuse to leave?”
“Hell, if I know” Sango said crossing her arms over her chest. “That chick was crazy from the get-go. I mean she didn’t know I sing yet we have choir together.”
“What did you do to her?”
“I did nothing to her and stop trying to change the subject!”
“Yes, mother.” he said rolling his eyes.
“Well?”
“Look, she’s cool okay?” he began “I mean she’s not as bad as I thought and yeah we’ve been on like two dates but that doesn’t mean I’m her boyfriend or anything. Friend if anything.”
“Right.” she snorted “For now.”
“What the hell is it to you anyway?”
“You already know the answer to that, brother dearest.”
“Well,” he said with a smile “Thanks for the concern but I got this okay?”
“Yeah, that’s what you said about She-who-must-not-be named.”
“Sango -”
“And I threatened her on more than one occasion.”
“Can we not talk about it?”
“Fine Fine, but you know I have a point.”
“Yeah, I know,” he began “And knowing you, you probably did something similar to Kagome.”
“Whatever.” she answered rolling her eyes. “Look, we both have to get to class so I’ll see you at lunch.”
“Later then.” Inuyasha responded going into his classroom as Sango walked off to hers.
~~~~
Kagome sat in her second period class twirling her pencil between her fingers at stared out the window. Every thing seemed to be going down after every thing went up. Her mother had found out she dropped cheerleading and started a dance team and that she dropped some of her volunteer work. She just couldn’t take being so busy anymore, and she didn’t drop everything just enough so she would have time to eat, sleep, and breathe. Sighing she continued to stare out the window lost in thought while she heard the faint sound of her teacher saying something, she just couldn’t stop re-playing the argument she had with her mother.
“Kagome!”
“What’ ;s up, mom?” Kagome answered running down the stairs.
“I spoke with Hojo’s mother recently it seems you both have broken up.”
“Well, yeah.” she answered relieved that was all her mother called her downstairs for.
“That’s not all I heard.”
“Oh, what else?”
“Something about a dance team and I called some of the places you volunteered at and it turns out you stopped coming.”
Kagome stared down at her mother, her breath caught in her throat. She knew her mother would have found out eventually but she was always so busy that she was sure it would be a while before she actually found out anything. She looked down into her mother’s angry brown eyes while she tapped her expensive blue heels that matched her prominent business suit. She had short dark brown hair and perfect skin. She owned about every night club in town and owned a string of hotels. She at first ran the night clubs but after Kagome’s father passed away she took over both businesses and was hardly at home. She was about the same height as Kagome but extremely set in her ways. Her younger brother Souta always kept to himself to stay out of any cross fire.
“Kagome Nozomi Higarashi!” she screamed. “What do you have to say for yourself?”
“Yes, I did drop some of my volunteer work and yes I did drop cheerleading.” she said quietly
“What in gods name where you thinking!?!” she continued to yell “ Do you not want to get into a good college!?!”
“Yes mother! I do and I will! I do more work than any human being should and it’s not like I dropped them all, just enough so I can have at least some free time.”
“Free time! This is the time to work, Kagome! It’s your Senior year and I do not approve of this dance team! I let you do your dancing on weekends but this is too far!”
“I like to dance and I hate cheerleading!”
“Kagome,” her mother sighed “Cheerleading shows you have school spirit and that you are involved, dance team is...well, honey it’s for girls who are less than proper we shall say.”
Kagome’s jaw dropped open at what her mother was saying. She couldn’t believe what her mother was implying.
“Mom! I can’t believe you just said that!”
“AND young lady I do not approve of these new friends you have!”
“How do you know about -”
“I’m your mother, I know everything.”
“I’m surprised you even noticed anything since your never home!”
The minute she said it, she slapped her hand over her mouth. But then instantly took it back off, she wasn’t going to let her mother control her life any longer.
“I work my butt off to provide for you and your brother and this is the thanks I get!” she yelled “I don’t ask much from you Kagome! You have everything anyone could want and it’s still not enough for you! How are you ever going to become a doctor with this kind of attitude!”
“I DON’T WAN TO BE A DOCTOR!” Kagome yelled so loud that it cause the cook to peak in from the kitchen. “ Stop trying to control my life!”
“I don’t know who you think you’re talking to young lady but as long as you live in my house you will obey my rules!”
“But mom -”
“You will go back to your volunteer jobs and quit this dance team thing and unless I approve of these friends you will not be hanging out with them!”
“You don’t even know them!”
“Invite them over for dinner one night and we’ll see.”
“No.”
“Excuse me?” her mother asked raising an eyebrow.
“I will not be going back to any of those things! I like to dance and it will look good on college applications! I hate cheerleading! I HATE IT! Those girls are horrible my new friends are fives times better than those ones ever will be!”
“Sweetheart, you need to think about your future and until you come to terms with what is truly best for you, you’re grounded.”
“Why?”
“ End of discussion Kagome.”
Kagome could feel her anger bubbling beneath the surface, her mother wasn't even listening to anything she was saying and she was tired of everything. She was tired of being ignored, tired of being pushed around, and most of all she was tired of being someone she just wasn't.
“I should be allowed to hang out with who I want, I should be allowed to live my own life! Stop trying to turn me into your picture perfect daughter! I have my own mind, and I’m my own person and I don’t need you to have a say in every thing I do especially when your not even around enough to deserve a say!”
“You are really trending on thin ice,” her mother said, her eyes turning into slits. “ Keep it up and I’ll make sure you’re grounded until college and I’ll transfer you to Yakamoto private school which I should’ve done in the first place. Also you will do what I say without any more arguments.”
“Mom, are you even listening to me?”
“Oh, I’m listening,” she said “ I’m listening to a little girl who’s upset because she’s not getting her way.”
“Mother! That’s not even -”
“I SAID END OF DISCUSSION!”
Kagome stared at her mother before sprinting back up stairs as fast as her legs could carry her. Then she ran into her room and launched herself onto her bed heaving gaint sobs into her pillow. Her mother didn’t hear anything she had to say, and it felt to Kagome was that her mother was the one who wanted it all her way and she just couldn’t stand it any longer. She was so upset at first that she didn’t even hear her brother and his friend come in.
“Are you okay, sis?”
She kept her head in her pillow, tears streaming down her face and shook her head.
“I don’t know Souta.”
“Is she going to be okay Souta?” she heard Koharu whisper by the door.
Before Souta could answer she told them both to come in and shut the door. Once that was done she pulled herself from her pillow and stared at the two 11-year-olds stared at her waiting for her to say something as she dried her eyes and stared at the floor. Koharu was Miroku’s younger sister and Souta and her had been friends since pre-school. She was a sweet soft spoken little girl with dark brown hair she always kept in a ponytail and pretty cinnamon brown eyes. Where as her brother was the same way, she always figured that’s why they got along so well. Souta had coco brown eyes like his sister and mother and short medium brown hair. He was always very considerate of his big sister and now was one of those times.
“I’m going to tell you two something but you have to promise to keep it a secret.”
“Okay.” they both said.
“I’m leaving.”
“What?” Koharu asked shocked.
“I’m letting you know because you are like family, Koharu and I’m sure Souta would have told you anyway.”
“But why, sis?”
“Because mother won’t listen to me, all I want is for her to understand what I’m saying. I can’t be who I want to be here and I have to leave.”
The two kids exchanged looks while Koharu took to leaning against the wall and staring down at her shoes.
“Look, maybe when your older you’ll understand -”
“I understand Kagome.”
She looked up at her little brother as more tears rolled down her cheeks and before she knew it she launched herself at him and gave him a huge hug.
“Thanks, Souta.”
“Will you come back?”
“Hopefully.” she answered as she got up and looked for her backpack.
“We’ll help you pack.”Koharu suddenly said “Right, Souta?”
“Yeah, but where will you go?”
“Don’t worry bro,” she said trying to smile “I’ll be okay.”
After Koharu and Souta helped her pack she waited until it was late and rang Ayame. Then trying to be as quiet as possible she took all the money she had with her and snuck out of the house. Where she ended up standing in Ayame’s doorway, and had been hiding in her basement ever since.
“Miss Higarashi!”
Suddenly, Kagome was snapped out of her thoughts and found that her teacher Mrs. Ito was standing there looking at her.
“Are you with us today Miss Higarashi?”
“Yes, ma’am,” she said sitting up “Sorry ma’am.”
As Mrs. Ito continued with her lesson she sunk back down in her chair and began to worry. As much as Kagome hated it she would have to go to another friend’s house soon or find somewhere else to go so her mother wouldn’t find her.
‘Gods, this is going to be a long day.’ She thought as she put her head down on her desk and closed her eyes.
A/N: So, there you have it...I thought I'd give ya'll a little peek into Kagome's world because it has to do with the next chapter which will be up very soon. Hope ya'll enjoyed! Laters 4 now!
