Chapter 3: Concert Tickets
The next few weeks of school passed pretty much uneventfully. If you don't count the rumors flying around the school at breakneck speed.
From what I could tell, I had cornered Kikyo at the park and told her how much I was in love with her. After she had supposedly rejected me, with sincere regret, I might add, I tried to force myself on her.
She had fought me off and fled with only the loss of her first kiss as a 'scar'.
I snorted when I heard that part, I knew for a fact, as did the rest of the school, that Kikyo had had her first kiss a couple years back.
School. Don't you just love it?
I was sitting in my usual seat behind the two guys who had been going on about how hot this Kagome chick was.
I saw a few more magazines of her since then, and I must admitt, she was rather pretty.
I was sitting there minding my own buisness when my too sensitive ears picked up on a conversation a group of girls sitting to my left was having.
"Yeah, she's coming here. To do a concert, I think." One of the girls said in a super animated voice. I think her name was Yumi...something, but I didn't really know for sure, nor did I care.
I tried to pretend not to be interested in what they were saying. Only my ears betrayed me by perking up, quite literally.
"Really? Is ther any chance we could get tickets?" The girl sitting next to the first, with dark brown wavy hair asked.
"They haven't even tarted to sell tickets yet, and the show's in two weeks!" This seemed to dampen the second girls spirits.
"when will she arive?" Was the next question asked.
The first girl thumbed through the magazine she had on her desk. "It says she is to arive with in the week!" Both girls started squeeling in high pitched voices and I had to lay my ears back against my head to protect them from going deaf.
Hmm...maybe I'd have to find a way to get a ticket for that concert, who knows, maybe she could actually sing properly.
After school I headed over to work on my skateboard. I could only work parttime because of school, but if I didn't work then I wouldn't be able to afford my apartment. My oh-so-sweet older brother didn't feel inclined to help me in the least. I actually hadn't heard from him in, oh, a good couple years. Not that I'm complaining, anything he had to say to me, wasn't likely to be good.
My job was simple, I had to wash car's at Joe's Wash. Joe was a nice enough guy. Not very tall, overweight, and balding. But he was nice and gave me the job despite my parentage. The fact that I was superfast, and super strong, was just an added bonus.
"Hey Joe!" I called into the back of the office, pulling on my apron. I clocked in and was about to go into the back when Joe showed up and stopped me.
"Oh, hey Inu. I was just going to ask you a question."
I paused and looked back at the older man. "Yes?" I asked.
"Well, I was planning on holding a competition here in a few days...I was just wondering if you thought it would be a good idea." Bob told me simply.
I looked at him, "What type of competition?" Was my next, obvious question.
"A Kareoke compitition. I thought it might be fun, and pull in a bit more business." He said, starting to look nervous.
I thought about it for a moment, "I don't see why not." I said slowly, "Who knows, it might be fun."
I started to walk out, but his next words froze my legs, "So, you'd be willing to sing for us?" Now where did that question come from?
I turned to give him a very odd look, one eyebrow raised, "What?" Was my reply.
"Well, people might not want to sing, and they might need a bit of a moral booster. Seeing someone else singing might do the trick." Joe explained.
"Singing alone isn't going to attract all that many people, Joe. Especially if you tell everyone that I'm going to be the one singing when there is a lapse in volenteers." I pointed out.
"Well, lets make it a party then. People can bring their cars to get a tune up, and a wash for quite a bit cheeper. While they're there, they can join the party." He said, this had to be one of the most bizar things I had ever heard.
I shook my head, a smile on my lips, Joe came up with the craziest ideas, maybe that's what made him so successful. "I think it's a brilliant idea, Joe." I told him before going out to work on the car currently waiting to be washed.
The classroom was noisy, as usual, during annoucements in first period. I never paid any attention to them anyway so it didn't bother me.
One announcement caught everyones attention, though. The room quieted and my ears perked up without my agreement. "Well, I'm sure everyone has heard about Kagome's upcoming consert here. It's going to be a very big pain to get tickets, but then again, it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity!
"Well, fellow students, do I have good news for you! I have managed to convince the teachers and Mr. Bood, to allow me to purchase two tickets and raffel them off as a kind of compitition/fundraising opportunity. Each ticket is one dollor each. You can buy as many tickets as you possibly want, or are able, and you will have that much more of a chance to win these two tickets!" There was a large cheer from around the school, and even I cracked a smile.
The SBO continued, "You can buy tickets starting today at lunch. We will do the actual raffel on Friday. Good luck!" And with that the overhead clicked off and the teacher tried, in vain, to gain the attention of the class.
I silently resolved to buy myself a few tickets.
Lunch came and the line was unbelievably long! I desided to wait till it died down, I wasn't in a big hurry anyway. I went outside and lept into a tree to wait out lunch. It was my usual custom, and no one ever saw me, so no one ever bugged me.
Three girls came and sat down under my tree. One of them was Kikyo. That was a sure sign that more girls would be joining them shortly.
My ears picked up every word they spoke, "So, Cally, how many tickets did you buy?" Kikyo asked.
"Fifteen. That was my lunchmoney for the next three weeks." The brown haired girl said. Kikyo and the other girl laughed. "What about you?" SHe asked, apperently of both girls.
"I bought twelve." The other girl, with died blond hair said.
Kikyo was last to answer. "twenty." She said, nonchalauntly.
The girls gaped at her, "Wow." The first said.
Kikyo grinned, "Oh, I think I'll get Bret to buy me a few, maybe Tai will too." The two other girls giggled now. I just rolled my eyes, girls!
One of the girls abruptly changed the subject, "Well, I'm relieved you finally got Inu Yasha off your back."
"Yeah! He was seriously starting to scare me." The other agreed. My eyebrow rose of it's own accord.
"Oh, he wasn't that bad. He's actually rather nice." Kikyo said, and my eyes widened slightly.
'She's defending me?' I couldn't help but think.
"Oh stop pretending he didn't scare you too, Kikyo. That freak was pratically a stalker!" The second girl said. I nearly fell out of my tree when I heard that; I waited for Kikyo to defend me.
"Well, I guess your right." I heard Kikyo say, "He did scare me, a little."
"Yes! The way he always smiled at you, you never knew what he was thinking about. And those fangs!" She shivered for effect.
The other girl nodded, "Are those ears even real?"
Kikyo nodded, "Yes, they are."
"Freak!" The girl yelled, "He is such a freak! I mean, ears and fangs, I think I even noticed he has claws. All he's missing is a tail!"
The bell cut their talk short and I jumped from the tree smoothly. I didn't look in the stunned girl's direction but headed into the school.
Friday came around soon enough, I'd managed to purchase a small handfull of tickets thursday at lunch, to the discust of my peers. I didn't pay any attention to them though, I was used to it by now.
Joe had made posters and fliers he spred around town, and news of that too, spread like wildfire around school. This party Joe cooked up was supposed to be big, despite the fact that I would be there. To my disappointment, he was adament on the idea of the singing. I would be most of the entertainment for the evening.
What a drag!
Lunch came even faster, and I made my way to the foyer with the rest of the students. I stood in a shaded corner of the large room, alone. Tension was thick in the room, had been all morning. I must admitt, I could feel one or two butterflies flapping around my my stomache as well.
Finally the Student Body President desided to gain everyone's attention, "Okay! I think everyone has waited long enough to find out our winner!" He reached into the box and pulled out a peice of paper.
Despite the fact that I knew for a fact that my name wasn't on that paper, I still caught myself holding my breath. Angry at myself I forced myself to calm down and breath normally.
He unfolded the paper and looked at it. His face paled slightly and his lips went tight. That didn't look very good, apperently he didn't much care for the person who's name he had picked. "Inu Yasha." Scratch that, no one really liked the person who's name he had picked.
I was in shock, me? I was going to go to the concert?
Well, apperently not everyone thought I should go.
"What?!"
"No!"
"Are you sure you read that right?"
"Put it back, pick another one!"
"Yeah! Pick another one!"
"No! Just pick me! I wont mind, and it's better than him."
'Just when I think Fate's finally looking my way, the world turns it's back on me.' I couldn't help but think, I pushed myslef off the wall I'd been leaning against and turned to go.
"QUIET!" The sound of the Student Body Presedent's voice reverberating around me locked me to my spot. "I will not be drawing a new name. No matter who was chosen. I will not cheat! Inu Yasha." I could feel his eyes boring into me and turned around, "Come get your tickets."
Cautously I did as he requested, I wasn't to keen to be the brunt of some elabrate joke, but I did want those tickets. Surprisingly, no one called his bluff, and I recieved two genuin looking tickets to Kagome's concert. I paused before giving one back, "I only need one." I explained and walked off, ignoring all the death glares sent my way.
I was still in shock, and so was the Student Body Presedent. I didn't really care what he did with my other ticket. I caught Kikyo looking at me and smirked at her. If she hadn't treated me like that a few weeks ago, I would have asked her to go with me, and we both knew it.
Well, that was interesting....just wait till Kagome get's in here! Well, anywho...review!!!!
