Words...carry

They hold power

In the presence of despair and guilt

Tick tock, another second chance ruined

Another proverbial drop of blood spilt

Power to build and power to destroy

Faster than the speed of sound

Sharper than any two-edged sword

Innocence lost when hard truths are found

Words…start out small…

Paper cuts burn, they sting, then they heal

The resulting marks are rarely ever seen

But, woebetide the recipient of such a cut

Who can't leave it alone and in doing so make it worse

They pick it apart and make it a greater part of themselves

It becomes a greater part of themselves

The scar is greater because

Words…inform

And this knowledge this powerful

So tuned into the emotions of the careless few who don't see

Take not for granted their intuitive little eyes

Do not trifle with the hearts of the young—they're more attuned than you know

How fragile…so easily crumbled up and scattered to the winds

On a breeze, they fly away, only to come full circle

To return with verbal slaps that ebb and flow

And what is left is an ashen facsimile of a person crushed

So easily left for the crows

Words…hinder

Makes life more of a struggle as the mind plays tricks

As the heart slowly rolls in on itself in a silent barricade

Slowly the dilapidated psyche ceases to share

Making once-vibrant people more of a whisper on the air

And all the while, do you see? Do you even care?

Oh what a difference your words have made

That wasn't a compliment

Words…should never hurt
