The Quiet Front

The future is waiting. So much to do. The time is coming now. All of the couples are forming. Kagome and Ryo could see this.

They both lay in his bed. Kagome turned to her fiancé.

“Exams are coming up,” she said.

“Yes,” he said.

“Have you studied?”

“Yes, yes.” He noticed her frowning. “What?”

“This is really important to me. I can't have you repeating senior year.”

“Don't worry, I don't.”

“You promise?”

“My grades are fine. There's nothing to worry about.”

Kagome rested her head on his chest. “Setsuna and Seiho. Can you believe it?”

“Yeah.”

“Huh?”

Ryo smiled to himself. “He's always had a thing for her.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. I had to push him to talk to her in the first time.”

“But why her? She was always glaring at us with those judging eyes of hers.”

“There, there. She's over that now.”

“I hope so.”

Ryo shivered and rested his hand on Kagome's head. She looked up.

“Something the matter?” she asked. He shook his head.

“Not really,” he said. “Just happy that creepy teacher isn't hitting on me anymore.”

“What?” his fiancée asked. Ryo shook his head.

“It's nothing,” he said. “Can we talk about something else? Please?”

“Did you go to the board?”

“Didn't need to. She didn't actually do anything to me. Sensei didn't do anything to dad either.”

“What?! She hit on your dad too?!”

“It wasn't like that! Nothing happened!”

“But…”

“Look, can we just drop it? Nothing happened. Okay? Let it go.”

Kagome pouted. “Fine.”

“Thanks.”

“We still have to tell mom and dad,” she said. Ryo frowned.

“That again?” he asked.

“Yes!” Kagome said. Ryo patted her on the head.

“Okay, okay,” he said. “We'll tell them after exams.”

“You promise?”

“Yeah, yeah.” He smiled to himself. Kagome crawled up and kissed him on the lips.

“I love you,” she said. Ryo kissed her back.

“I love you too,” he said. His girl smiled and giggled.

“I can't wait to be your bride,” she said. Ryo smiled and rubbed her back.

“Yeah,” he said. Already, the boy enjoyed this future awaiting them. He just wondered how their parents react to the news. Ryo closed his eyes and held his breath.

“Let's hope for the best,” he said to himself.

“Hm?” Kagome asked as she drifted off to sleep. Her fiancé smiled and shook his head.

“Nothing,” he lied. “Nothing at all.” Ryo slowly drifted off to sleep.

That worry would have to come later.
