Chapter II:
Dark Matter

"Raw matter that makes the world."

November 18th, 1389

"So in essence, this is nothing more than-"
Kiyam was zoned out, he didn't realized obtaining power could be so... Boring.
He looked over to his right and saw May standing firm and listening well to Saven.
Saven found a nice isolated area, only little ways from the town, a clearing in the
forest with one large boulder nearly in the center...
"Kiyam!"
Kiyam snapped back into reality by the stinging blow from Savens stick.
"Pay attention!"
Kiyam straightend up.
"Yes sir!"
Kiyam heard May giggle a bit, he could not help but feel hot in the cheeks and blush.
But wait, why was he blushing?
"So in order to control such a strong amount of energy, you must also be
well trained in both mind and body, understand?"
Mind and body.. What?
"Kiyam, get on that boulder and stand on the thinnest part on one leg.
The hold that position for 5 minutes."
Kiyam climbed on the boulder and stood on one leg, no sooner did he raise his foot than
did he lose his footing and came crashing down with a thud.
"Oww.. That hurt." Kiyam mumbled
Kiyam stood up and saw disappointment in his eyes.
"Kiyam, we both know you couldn't have done that!"
"Sorry sir."
"Don't ever apologize to anyone."
"Sir?"
"Apologizing is nothing more than showing remorse or regret for an action you have made.
If you knew you were going to feel that way, then do not bother proceeding with action itself."
"But sir." May spoke up. "What if you accidentally broke something?"
"You should have been careful in the first place, do not put yourself in that position."
Saven turned back to facing Kiyam and got down on one knee to be at eye level.
"Kiyam, what I'm trying to teach you is to always question peoples intent. We both know you
couldn't have done that. Next time tell me that; know your capabilities. Understand?"
"..Yes sir."
"Good, well, it's getting late."
Saven grabbed a bag he had brought earlier and pulled out two large books and handed one to
both Kiyam and May.
"I want you to read these, then be prepared to individually give me a oral on what the book is about.
I would also like for you to interpret the moral behind the story, be finished with it in two days."
May looked wide-eyed at the giant book.
"S-sir? What does this half to do with that power?"
Saven placed his hand on Mays head.
"To train this mind of yours. Now go, head home."
May and Kiyam started leaving.
"Kiyam!"
"Sir?"
"I would like you to ask your father if you could stay out here and be with me for the night."
"..Yes sir."
Saven moved into a camping ground on the edge of the clearing. As Kiyam headed through the
thick forest brush with May, he wondered why Saven would want him to stay the night with him.

After saying good-bye to May, getting his fathers permission, and packing cloths. Kiyam started to head
out back to the clearing. As he walked, he took in the beauty of the forest. It was because of that he
noticed a tree with strange markings, it was the Valesworth tree, his family tree. Kiyam moved his hands
on the initials J.V. and T.V. which had a conjoined line going down to a another initial K.V., his initials.
He never got to know his mother; she died when he was young. Deciding that he was taking to much time
he started heading to the camping site.
Saven was cooking a type of stew when Kiyam had returned. Kiyam placed his things and settled himself on his
sleeping spot, which was nothing more than a cotton mattress filled with feathers.
"Sir what are you making?"
"Please Kiyam, call me Saven outside of training."
"Yes si-Saven."
"I am making a stew that will relax your mind and body, suitable for training."
Saven and Kiyam ate their meal and started laying down, looking at the stars above.
"Kiyam.. You've never met your mother.. Have you?"
"...No."
"She died in that church fire, didn't she?"
"Father said.. That there was some kind of rebe..."
Kiyam was having trouble spitting out the word.
"Rebela-"
"Rebellion?"
"Yeah! That's the one! ...And that the capitals soldiers came and rounded all the townspeople up, and burned
down the church... People ran into the woods."
"... And then they rebuilt the town and pledged their loyalty to the capital."
"Yeah."
"Kiyam, I've seen your mother before. Long brown hair, blue eyes."
"You knew my mom?"
"No, I did not know her. I just saw her... In her very last moments of living.."
"So.. You were at the church fire."
Then all the sudden it occured to him, Kiyam quickly jumped up.
"So that means you were a capital soldier?!"
Saven merely looked at Kiyam and started to laugh.
"Don't be ridiculous."
Kiyam felt stupid for thinking that, and then laid back down.
Moments passed of silence, Kiyam wasn't sure if Saven had fallen asleep or not. He started thinking about today,
why was he blushing when May giggled? He wasn't embarrassed. And besides that stick hurt! Well he probably should
stop thinking about things like that anyhow. Kiyam rolled over and went to sleep.

Several days had passed of brutal mental training. Saven had both Kiyam and May read
very big books and do several logic problems. Nearly fried their brains.
"Today children, we will work on the more physical part of your training."
Saven grabbed a rock about 2 foot long and a foot in width and threw it on the ground. He drew his sword jammed
the blade inside the rock.
"I want you to pull my sword out of the rock. You will take turns. Each turn you fail, there will be consequences. Kiyam, you first."
Kiyam stepped up, and grasped his hands around the sword.. Breathed deep.. And pulled the sword as hard as he could.
It was hard, Kiyam could feel his face turn blue. How could he ever do this? After 15 secs of grunting, Kiyam stopped and fell
to the ground panting.
"Kiyam, you failed. Do 20 push-ups and 20 sit-ups."
"Wha-?!"
"I said there would be consequences. May your turn."
May looked extremely nervous, she went up the rock, and pulled. Barely lasting 3 seconds she also fell to the ground.
Saven sighed.
"May 20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups."
"Yes sir."
A few moments passed by and Kiyam had finished his work-out.
"Kiyam, try again."
Kiyam looked at that sword with a burning fury, he walked over to it and grasped it he would pull it out.
He would pull it out! He would pull it o-... He would fall on his face. Kiyam looked up at the sword again, he had failed again.
That sword was hated with a passion by Kiyam.
"Kiyam, 20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups."
The cycle continued, Saven was sitting on the boulder reading a book and occasionally looked up to see if they were
doing their training properly. Eventually both May and Kiyam were physically exhausted, their hands red and on the verge
of blistering. Saven snapped his book shut and stood up.
"Not bad for the first day. You lasted longer than I expected."
Saven grabbed his sword and easily pulled it out of the rock like is was a knife through butter, leaving Kiyam and May dumbstruck.

Kiyam and May sat together while Saven was making more of the stew, for the past few days they had been staying the night a
Savens camping grounds.
"So Mr. Saven?"
"Yes May?"
"What is that power called?"
"Ah, that power.. It's called 'Dark Matter'."
"Dark Matter?" Kiyam said in a puzzeled voice.
"Yes, Dark Matter; Raw matter that makes the world. It can break-down all living things to it's original compounds."
"Does that it mean it can make things too?" May asked.
"... Here, the stew is ready, eat plenty. You will need the energy."
Moments of silence passed with them eating.
"Sir, did you see Mays mother? You know, at the church burning?"
Kiyam set his spoon down n the stew and started thinking.. Suddenly he grew wide eyed.
"No.."
"A-are you sure?"
"Kiyam I said NO!"
Both of the children grew silent.
".. Sorry, you two get to bed."
The three crawled into bed and fell into their dreamland...
A few hours had passed and Kiyam awoke to the sound of shifting movement. He looked up and saw Saven walking into
the woods, Kiyam followed. Where was Saven going? Is the question that ran through his mind over and over, until eventually
Saven came to a halt, Kiyam hid in some bushs and watched closely. Saven kneeled and began searching for something with
hand.. Eventually Saven raised his hands, and lowered it again and felt on his find. He had found what he was looking for.
"...!" Kiyam gasped.
Saven stood up while gazing at a skull.
"Kiyam.. Come out, I know your there." He muttered.
Kiyam slowly revealed himself from his hiding place.
"Sorr-" Savens slight growl cut him off.
Kiyam looked down.
"What is that?"
Saven looked away from the skull and lowered his arm, he turned around looked at Kiyam.
"May's mother's skull. Some capital soldiers dragged her out here, savagely beat her. Then raped her."
A look of pure horror spread over Kiyams face.
"I didn't want to say it in front of may, neither will you Kiyam. Understand?"
"Ye-yes sir."
"Good.. Now, let's get back to bed."
Saven gave the skull a proper burial and the two left back to the camping grounds.
