Chapter 2

Lance wasn't like this, Ash thought, as he and the others quickly sped towards Monsoon Island. It could just not be possible! Lance must be possessed… It must be the evil influence of the Blue Orb!

Meanwhile, on Monsoon Island, the bedraggled Team Magma set them selves ashore, even as Archie, the leader of Team Aqua, declared that he would control Kyogre. However, his dramatic speech on overtaking the world was swiftly cut short when a Hyper Beam slammed into his chest, sending him flying as the Red Orb fell from his hands. With a cry, the Dragonair that had blasted him picked up the Red Orb in it's mouth, and flew back up towards the sky, heading for her Trainer.
Kyogre halted, staring at the Dragonair questioningly.
What are you doing?
Stopping my trainer before he does more damage.
He will not, I think.
Kyogre, you know how Master can fall so easily… and with Groudon's power…! Ground is not one of his elements! It will drive him mad!
Then I will aid you.
Try not to hurt him too much. Dragonair told Kyogre, before suddenly, blue patterns began to glint along her scales.
Kyogre nodded in agreement.

Lance's eyes glinted red, as he smiled. “Groudon…. Eruption…”
The island behind them exploded into lava, volcanoes erupting as magma forced itself up from the Earth's mantle, shattering baked rock hundreds of years old, and flames scorched the sky.
Kyogre hurriedly countered, as Rain Dance swept into effect, but then Groudon's Sunny Day effectively cleared the sky of clouds…
She had to work quickly, before both of them drowned. With that thought in mind, she used Spout. Lance hissed as he and Aerodactyl swerved to avoid being hit, but Groudon was not so lucky.

“Hakuryuu! Call fourth the four winds!” He shouted. “And call the Lightning that sleeps within the skies to our aid!”
The Dragonair possessed by the Red Orb struggled to obey, but Lance was her trainer, and she could not disobey a direct order. With a howl, the winds began to blow fiercely, while her twin eagerly summoned lightning, wreathing himself in a blaze of bright yellow…
Kyogre frowned. Normally, such would be no threat, but having to fight Lance's dragon team and Groudon might prove a bit troublesome, especially if the rumors were true…
Groudon's expression looked menacing, as he charged towards her, and she hastily decided to end it all quickly. The temperature around her dropped, as she launched a flurry of ice beams, immobilizing both Groudon and Lance's dragons.

Meanwhile, Ash and Swellow were flying towards the battle…

Ash honestly did not know why he was doing this. Dense as he might be, he did know that flying in a thunderstorm might not be the brightest idea. But he had to do something! He was never the type to just stand there and watch….
Lance's Gyarados was carrying May, Max and Brock out to the battle. They had of course, agreed to help. After all, it was never their policy to leave a friend in danger.
Still, as Ash watched Kyogre firing ice beams at Lance's dragons, which were countering rather well with Hyper Beam and Thunderbolt, he had to wonder if this was really a good idea. The only bright side was that Lance's Dragonite and Red Gyarados weren't here. If they had to deal with those too…!
He shivered, but Swellow still flew bravely on.
Pikachu eyed Lance's Aerodactyl, calculated, and then pumped enough lightning to fry a Golem into both the trainer and the pokemon.
Ash winced.

Lance cried out in surprise as the electricity struck, and for a moment, his expression wavered, before the Blue Orb reasserted control. With a snarl, Lance pointed at Aerodactyl.
“Hakai Beam!”
A brilliant cone of yellow energy burst from Aerodactyl's mouth, as the two Dragonair began to circle Kyogre, lightning and wind becoming a rushing current of electricity that solidified into a ring around the water-type.
The only upside to this situation Kyogre could think of was the fact that Groudon was rapidly sinking into the sea.
Still, rational thought was increasingly hard to maintain, as her link with Lance's Dragonair became more tenuous, emotions filtering in not her own and above all, the madness of a Dragon Master wielding an element he should not…

But dragons were loyal unto death, and nothing would sway Lance's Dragonair from her devotion, not even Kyogre. One part of her applauded this heart, but another part of her was saddened. She had to escape quickly, and knock them out before more damage was done….

Groudon was drowning. The pain filled his head as he screamed, red blazing brilliantly on his body in an ever-increasing amount. As one, the Dragon Master and his Aerodactyl dove into the turbulent ocean waters.
Ash gasped. What was… what was Lance doing?

< Eruption… > Lance hissed, even as he neared Groudon, managed to grab onto a ridge. < The power is within you, just below…. And we are close, so very close… we will burst the waters with more land, and we will force Kyogre to retreat…! >
And Groudon obeyed, as the ocean split, a ridge of bubbling lava forming as Groudon once more stood above the waves. Its body began to glow, absorbing sunlight for solarbeam…
With Kyogre so near and still trapped in the ring of lightning, there was no chance of missing!
Lance's Dragonair shared identical grins, mirroring their Master's crazed expression as they charged up Hyper Beam…
