Making Plans (Before the bickerment)

Ami looked in Taiki’s direction, her eyes filled with adoration. She had always liked him, but was unsure how he felt about her. She had become acutely aware of Taiki’s gaze while he stared at both herself and her son. She quickly looked him over and realized he had not changed all that much since they had last seen one another. He still wore his hair pulled back, for it hung lower down his spine. The glasses he wore, for he had only worn reading glasses while studying, or loosing himself in his favorite novels and comics, surprised Ami. He wore a white t-shirt beneath a black leather jacket that looked quite impressive on his tall lean frame. His blue denim jeans with their star motifs lining each pocket together with knee-high black leather boots completed the sexy bad-boy image. She usually avoided troublemakers, but knew Taiki wasn’t the type. However, all the same, she found herself caught up in his magnetic aura. Ami knew she was still very attracted to him.

“Taiki, I would be glad to show you around Crystal Tokyo … That is if you’re willing … I would like to talk to you alone.” Ami asked as she blushed.

“Ami, I’d really appreciate that … may I ask about this fine boy? I know it’s been so long since our last conversation. You know, we’ve all moved on with our lives, and I see also the same is true for you too!” Taiki said with a hint of jealousy.

Ami looked at him for a minute or two, and then it dawned upon her what he meant. He was jealous of her relationship with her son’s father. However, the truth was Zoisite was no longer alive. He died a year ago in a hover-car accident. There was nothing that could be done to save him. Despite the fact, Ami was a doctor, and one of the best surgeons in Japan, she and her team of skilled physicians had failed to save him. She broke down after having lost him upon the operating table.

“Oh! I’m so sorry, Taiki … This is my son Kyle Brandon Mizuno. He has my surname, because that’s what his father chose for him. My husband didn’t know his surname, so we used mine instead. You see Taiki; this was the case with all the inner Scouts in naming their children … for their husbands all lacked surnames, Except Serena of course!” Ami giggled.

Taiki looked down at the small boy, for this child couldn’t be more than eight or nine years-of-age, and apart from possessing his mother’s beautiful eyes, He looked nothing like his mother.

“Taiki, just to let you know, I’m not with anyone right now … My husband Zoisite died a year ago in a hover-car accident. He loved his son more than anything in the world, and Kyle’s the legacy he has left me … Its okay, I’ve moved on, for Zoisite wouldn’t want me to languish in our home alone and not rebuild my life … So, I would really like to spend time alone with you if that’s possible?” Ami asked in a shy voice.

Taiki smiled, and took Ami by the hand, then knelt on one knee and introduced himself to Kyle.

“Hi, Kyle, I’m an old friend of your mother’s. You know Kyle, your mother and I go back quite a way, and we knew each other when she was a teenager … I want to ask you something; would you mind if I borrow your mom for a while and take her out? … I promise we’ll bring you something special back, if that’s okay … since you’re the man in your family now I thought I’d ask you first!” Taiki said with a smile.

Kyle looked at Taiki as if he were crazy. He couldn’t figure out why he spoke to him like a kid. He didn’t care what his mother did, so long as she came home safe and sound.

“If you’re a friend, then you’ll realize I’m no child … I’m a man … I take care of my mother now, and I want her to be safe … I also want her home before two in the morning, okay?” Kyle commanded in a serious tone.

Taiki stood up at attention. He raised his fist and saluted Kyle in the Sailor-soldier fashion by placing it against his chest over his heart.

“Sir … Yes sir!” Taiki answered trying to act earnestly.

He couldn’t help but chuckle to himself. Taiki liked this kid a lot. He knew in just a few words that young Kyle was very protective of his mother. He finally got his chuckling under control, and then he stared down at the boy.

Ami and Kyle couldn’t help but laugh at Taiki’s antics. Ami then crouched down and hugged her son.

“I promise I will be home on time, Kyle … You have my word, and my word is my bond!” Ami answered also giving the sailor salute with a warm smile.

“I promise ... if not, I’ll let one of the Scouts beat me up with your permission, Kyle! Does your mother always get dates, or am I the only one to ask permission to take her out?” Taiki asked still smiling.

“You’re the only one … My mother works too much … She never gets out, so please take her and make sure she has fun … and I don’t mean … too much fun! … Just things you would do on a date.” He replied.

“Kyle!” Ami chided shyly.

They lost themselves in conversation, Ami and Taiki had a lot to catch up on and wasted little time getting re-acquainted. Meanwhile, across the chamber, the others were reminiscing about the past, talking about the day Luna first befriended each of them … they talked about Queen Beryl and the Dark Kingdom … then discussed the Dark Moon Family & Dr. Tomoe’s damans. The major topic of conversation of course, was Darien and Serena.

They passed the time amiably until at some point Ami heard Lita ask Rini and the older kids to take the children to the nursery.

"Kyle, go with the others, and please behave yourself … Don’t let me find out you’ve been bullying the other children!" Ami said smiling, whilst waving a finger back and forth.

Ami watched her son leave and smile broadly at his mother. Suddenly, Amara shouted at Seiya for something he said.

“Where do you get off saying something like that …?”

“You’ve no right to judge …,” Michelle continued.

Ami didn’t understand what was going on, but decided to find out. She casually walked with Taiki to find out what all the commotion was about. They’d almost joined the others when Seiya responded to Amara and Michelle.

“I’m only stating facts … I recall how sad Serena was back then, especially when we fought Sailor Tin Nyanko! … You Outer Sailors were not always there to see how depressed she was … for she was always on the verge of tears because of Darien! … She would often confide in me, and tell me how Darien had never once tried to contact her! You were not there during our fight with Sailor Tin Nyanko when she broke down! … Her heart had shattered, and her normally vibrant spirit had finally broken … she didn’t want to be alone any longer, for it was too much to bare … I felt for her, I’ll admit I care a lot about Serena … I only wish I had met her first! … However, when she was crying her heart out after Tin Nyanko departed, I asked her a very important question that meant a lot to me … She understood my meaning, and knew I would protect her, no matter what! … So do not give me that crap about not having a right to comment about Darien … You have no idea what she went through! … The only ones who understood were the Inner Scouts and my fellow Starlight’s.” Seiya shouted as angry tears scorched his face.

Serena had then jumped to Seiya’s defense, and this surprised the aqua and blonde outer scouts while Pluto calmly looked on trying to understand both sides. Serena meanwhile explained how Seiya saved her life on the roof of the school and threw a red rose that both reminded her of Darien and simultaneously prevented her death. Ami continued to listen, for she and the others knew how difficult this time was for Serena. The blue haired woman wished Amara and Michelle would try and see both sides of the issue as they didn’t have all the facts, but that was about to change.

“ … I’m sure you can appreciate what this means, for that’s what really set me off, and made me cry out for Darien. He didn’t realize why I wept until he remembered the rose! … You see, because none of you were ever there for me, and yes, I know you would have, if you could, but you must not forget …Seiya and the inner soldiers were there, but it was Seiya who comforted me and saved me from a horrible fate! So please, just lie off, and give him a break will you?” Serena said earnestly.

Ami stood beside Lita and listened to the final stages of the argument. She couldn’t believe they would bring something up from the past like this, especially a subject long forgotten that had nothing to do with them. She couldn’t believe they were accusing Seiya of trying to take Serena from Darien. They didn’t understand the basis of their relationship the same way she and the inner scouts understood it. Ami realized she had to put a stop to this before it went too far.

“Amara, Michelle … I think you need to leave Seiya be … He was, and remains just a friend … You can’t stand in the way of friendship guys … we all remember that day clearly, so what Seiya says is true. I think Serena has a right to defend him, especially given what you’ve learned this day … He has the right too express himself, based upon knowledge and circumstances he understood to be correct at the time … so don’t judge him so harshly guys!" Ami added.

Serena looked at her friends, then nodded, and crossed the floor stepping into the gardens to clear her head to try to make sense of the situation.

The conversation had ebbed back and forth between Seiya, Serena and sailor soldiers. Finally, Amara and Michelle offered their apology, and then attempted to explain their motives to their queen.

Serena headed for the palace gardens. After stepping a few paces along the flagstone veranda, she turned on her heel, and her mother of pearl gown swirled about her graceful form as she called to Seiya to walk with her in the gardens. Serena’s disarming retort contained a light, but firm warning for everyone to respect her wish for privacy. The two women stood bewildered. Serena’s quick thinking defused the intensity of the situation.

Ami briefly caught Seiya’s arm for a second before he left the chamber, and then she said in a voice loud enough for the outer scouts to hear.

“Seiya, just to let you know, I understand where you’re coming from, and that goes for Serena too on this … I and the inner scouts support you and Serena. You know we were there and witnessed what transpired that day … So don’t think we’re against you … You’re always welcome here as Serena has also stated Seiya!” Ami remarked as the tall starlight warrior nodded and smiled his thanks to Ami before joining Serena in the garden. Lita, Mina, Raye and Hotaru also nodded their agreement. However, Amara, Michelle and Trista were another story all together.

“Thank you guys … At least I know I have friends apart from Taiki and Yaten to support my friendship with your Queen!” he replied with a grateful smile as Ami touched his arm once more to make one last statement before he left for the garden.

"Seiya, having supported you on these matters, I must say, and forgive my bluntness … but if you ever do anything to hurt Serena or anyone here, we will make you regret ever visiting or wishing to stay … I’m warning you, so there’s no misunderstanding, for there are lines that ought not to be crossed … and Seiya, I know you know what I’m referring to! … Serena is special to all of us. She’s been through enough heartache as you’re well aware! … In short, we don't want her to suffer anymore pain!” Ami said as her eyes blazed with intense emotion.

"I understand, and promise to do all I can to avoid hurting her … I care for her just as much as any of you do, perhaps more so, but I would rather see her happy than devastated." Seiya re-assured Ami, his manner sincere.

Ami watched as Seiya turned to join Serena. She turned and glared at Amara, Michelle and Trista. She couldn’t believe they were so rude, especially after all these years.

“Its always been the policy that whenever a decision involving the welfare of the Crystal Kingdom and its rulers, King Endymion and Neo-Queen Serenity, the palace and Crystal Tokyo, we Sailor Soldiers together discuss and arrive at an understanding. However, on this, the majority support Seiya and his cousins … They’re more than welcome … therefore, I suggest the three of you resolve your differences with them, especially with Seiya!” Raye suggested.

She watched as Raye’s words sank in. Ami took Taiki by the hand and left the chamber with the other Sailor Soldiers following close behind. Amara, Michelle and Trista stood staring after them.

“I feel really foolish guys!” Trista confessed as she combed her sumptuous emerald hair with her splayed fingers.

“I’ve always felt Serena was too immature to handle a man like Seiya, but, might I be over cautious?” Amara puzzled seeking the answer in the eyes of her friends.

“I know we must be on guard, for the time gate is throwing off unusual signals … but this may have little if anything to do with Seiya and the others. It’s more likely to do with Angelina and her remaining sisters!” Trista replied rubbing her jaw trying to weigh the situation.

“Perhaps Ami is right Amara, we ought to sort out the angst and clear the air for Serena’s sake … there’s nothing stopping us from keeping an eye on Seiya without upsetting Serena … besides, when Darien returns he may relax around her and perhaps their friendship will remain platonic.” Michelle added thoughtfully.

“I hope you’re right Michelle, but I think for the solidarity of the Sailor Soldiers we’ll extend an olive branch, but if either of them, especially Seiya put a foot wrong we’ll demand the others discuss it with us and come to a united decision on how to handle it!” Amara exclaimed as the others nodded their agreement.

Hannah and her new friend at that moment walked into the chamber looking for everyone. Trista greeted Hannah warmly as did the others, who looked on smiling at the bright-eyed woman-child and her guide, who was also looking for the queen.

“Hey guys, I think Rini and Lita need Hannah’s assistance in the royal kitchens.” Trista said winking at the pretty blonde haired girl who smiled and nodded as she took Hannah’s hand in hers, and encouraged her charge and new friend to move quickly, least they would keep Lita waiting. The two young women raced one another up the spiral staircase to the first floor and Hannah laughed like a child as the Outer Soldiers cares were lifted by the innocent girl’s antics.
