Lovely update. I like the way Inuyasha said 'math test things'. You know, one of those things, LOL. I can understand Kagome getting nervous, though; I'm sure I would be. That was a funny image, she and Inuyasha switching places. I think her working on the roof would look less ridiculous than him trying to sew, LOL. But Inuyasha should definitely be the one going to the roofing party, so that he could, like she said, catch all the men who fall off the roof, LOL. Sounds like there's going to be enough of them that they'll be tripping over each other. Wonderful chapter, as always. I love all the realism, our favorite duo's interaction with all your subsidiary characters; all your OC villagers give the story so much more depth than it could ever have possibly achieved otherwise. I also loved how you had them looking back on when they first met, and how much can change over time; it really has been a long time since that day. Sure, four years in and of itself isn't always that much time, but a lot changed for these guys over the last four years; it must feel like another lifetime ago. Yay! Wonderful update, as always. Looks like Aki might actually start behaving now, if for no other reason than to earn the ability to visit with his grandmother. It's worth putting up with the hard work rather than trying to run away, especially since running away isn't working anyway, LOL. I don't expect him to throw on a happy face and be all phony polite like you have to do in retail, LOL, so he can still grumble under his breath I think and get away with it, so long as despite his grumbling he actually does what Kinjiro tells him to do. I wonder what Kagome's reaction was to hearing Tameo mention how Susumu convinced Inuyasha to join the watch. Guess I'll find out next chapter, LOL. LOL, someone tried to correct your grammar, but their own was so bungled you couldn't understand what they meant? Classic. Hey, nobody's perfect, but like you said, that's why you're constantly going back and editing this or that. Your story is grammatically a hell of a lot better than some of the stories out there. It's also a hell of a lot better purely story-wise! Absolutely loved this update, of course. One thing I love the most about your style of writing is how you take the time to research all your cute little details, like mitsuba, which is a moist loving and shade loving plant rich in calcium and vitamin c. And you know what else? The little purple flowers of hotokenoza do kind of look like mini snake heads, LOL. I loved the development with Aki at the end there, his amazement that Inuyasha would save him, especially at his own expense since he got nailed by the birds himself in the process. Also loved the revelation that his 'hero' Morio was really the bad guy, and the one who made his grandmother sick. With Aki also admitting that he'd been acting out as much as he was because Morio had specifically told him to, maybe they'll go a little easier on him so long as he cools his jets now. Looks like a lot of the air was sucked out of his sails at all he's just learned, so I'm looking forward to seeing how Aki behaves from here on out. Someone wrote a review that talked about grammar. Unfortunately, I couldn't understand what points were being made because it was rather ungrammatical. Accidently hit the delete review button. If you would like to repost, perhaps with examples, I might be able to figure out what you are referring to. I'm well aware that not every chapter is perfectly error free, which is one of the reasons you will find me doing edits. And yes, Joben appears as a character in the original version of After the End, but he's not the same person in this story. So did Tameo, Hisa, and Hana. But they are my characters, so why not? I am also a retired English professor, so perhaps all you need to point out is where there errors are, instead of trying to explain to me why the errors are bad. I like that Haname is trying to be nice, saying that she wouldn't mind it if Kagome came in, and telling Kaede not to leave Kagome waiting outside next time. I think I more feel sorry for Haname than dislike her any more these days. It was meant to be that Kaede left Kagome outside this one time, though, because otherwise she probably wouldn't have made a new friend in Amaya, or at least not yet. I really like Amaya, too, for sure. I'm glad Kagome's found somebody she can ask about vegetables or whatever, who knows so much about gardening. Our poor future-born miko's got to feel so lost, in a way, thrust into a world she knows very little about, granted by her own design and choosing, but so now here she is trying to figure things out but then at the same time it's hard for her to even ask anybody because they act like she should already know, so she's stuck with that feeling of trying to pretend she knows what she's doing even though she doesn't, just hoping to wing it and get by. Kind of like Inuyasha back during that meeting at Tameo's about the boys, LOL. At least he and Kagome are in the same boat, when it comes to adapting to village life, so that's good, and she's got honest friends in Kaede and of course Sango and Miroku, and now Amaya, who will help her out without making her feel stupid for not already knowing something. Lovely update! I really like Amaya too, now. Seems to me poor Isao's mother is just trying to go with the flow and is a tad bit victim of circumstance. Surely she knows her boy isn't the bad boy Haname thinks he is, and that animosity Haname felt towards Isao, that Aki only got into trouble when he influenced him, has got to have put up a buffer in Amaya's head to not become one of Haname or Chiya's sheep when it comes to listening to all their other nonsense. So I'm so glad to see her being nice to Kagome, and that was very tactful, too, the way Kagome tried to explain the vegetable situation. She's going to have to tiptoe around the truth like that, since most people, I don't think they ever really knew she was from the future, just that she was from another world, and there's really no point in trying to explain things. The more she'd explain about what all she had in her time, the more 'rich' the people of Inuyasha's time are going to think she was. So letting Amaya think that her shrine did indeed grow all its own vegetables, and merely somebody else besides her was in charge of doing it, was definitely the best way to go. I love that she offered to help Kagome learn, and that Kagome can tell she's made a new friend in her. Yay! I feel sorry for them all having to put up with Morio; hopefully Kaede's got some candy tranquilizers for him to eat, LOL. I wouldn't even want to fathom trying to get an adult male five year old to take a nasty tasting medicine he didn't want to take. All in all great job, as always. LOL, I like Daisuke, and I agree, Inuyasha doesn't have anything to worry about as far as that goes. If sending Kagome will get him to take his medicine then I'm sure Inuyasha will approve. He cares for the old man, bringing him wood like he does. I like Hana, too. At least there's one nice one in that family. Things look like they're plugging along nicely. Wonderful update, as always. So Kagome's got her first taste of what it's like for the poorer people of the village. Even in a village like that, that as a whole is poor compared to say a nobleman's estate, there are still going to be richer and poorer among them. She's actually pretty well off herself since she's a miko and Inuyasha is warrior class, and being adopted into Tameo's ko like she is. Inuyasha might occasionally feel bad because of knowing what she gave up for him, the life she could've had in her century, but I don't think he's doing too bad when it comes to providing for her in his own. They even have a futon. And now that he's going to officially be on the village guard, that's got to bump himself up in status in some way, I would assume, never mind that whole 'protected by the kami' gig, LOL. Yeah, life is good. And starting to get hectic, from the sound of things. Pretty soon it'll be the roofing party and woman's sewing party. Yay, progress! LOL. Really loved this chapter, though, I suppose that's getting a bit pointless of me to say because obviously, I love EVERY chapter, LOL. But I especially liked Inuyasha's talk with Susumu at the end there, and Susumu finally getting to the point and voicing his request. I agree with him, by birthright Inuyasha should be a guard of the village, being a warrior and sword carrier, after all. He's certainly not a farmer. And your mention earlier with the girls of Rin's interest in flowers and wanting to learn the names of everything made me chuckle a little 'cause it reminded me of me, and my recent endeavor to learn flowers because of my new job. Lovely update, as always. Just another day in their lives; I love these little snippets. Kagome with Kaede, it's wonderful that she's learning so much, and yeah, back then a child's fever could be serious, indeed. Kagome's in a world without antibiotics, so she'll have to be more diligent with every little sniffle and cough. The herbs that work, they aren't as strong as our medicine, and so need to be taken early enough. Much harder to bring someone back from the brink with no IVs at your disposal. Loved the scene with Inuyasha and Susumu, too, and Inuyasha jumping up into the watch tower and then turning around and offering Susumu a hand, who'd started the climb up the ladder before Inuyasha's jump, LOL. Guess there's no point in being afraid of heights if you can't possibly get hurt in a fall. I'm not really afraid of heights, myself, but I have a healthy awareness of gravity, LOL. I could handle being up in a watch tower, but there's always a bit of underlying nervousness whenever you're up high in something you might possibly somehow fall out of. If a fall from great heights just equated to embarrassment, and possibly the wind knocked out of me if I landed wrong as the absolute worst that could happen, then I'd be up in trees all the time, too. Read this last night but couldn't leave a review; stupid iffy Internet connection, LOL. But anyway, I loved this update, of course, as always. I must admit, it is kind of suspicious that Miroku would insist upon meditating where the conversation inside the house would inevitably distract him, if he really needed to meditate that badly, LOL. Maybe eavesdropping is how he meditates, LOL. Sango's comment about Chiya was unexpected, but I know you will reveal/explain more later, you master of dropping hints and planting seeds, you. The closing scene was adorable, Inuyasha watching Kagome puttering around the house until finally losing it and snatching her up like prey, LOL. Dinner can wait, indeed. Good update! Yay! Lovely update; what a wonderful Christmas present, LOL. Loved the scene with Inuyasha fishing and the boys watching. That's hard, to catch a fish that way, though I imagine Inuyasha has advantages over a mere human attempting such a feat. Good for the human boy who managed it! And I liked how...Jiro was it?...stopped them all from fighting over who can sneak up on fish the best and such. Not something to fight over, indeed.
